F@Hmon over network with share folder

Does anyone have a headless box and use F@Hmon over the network by making your GPU client folder shared and pointing it to the data file in F@Hmon on your local machine? so you can monitor your local client and the remote one at the same time?

Yup, and it's really just that simple too as long as you're on the same network.

Yes, if it is in the same network, this works ;) Mine is setup so 90% is over the network (samba share for linux instances and windows share for windows instances duh).

 
Also works over WAN or VPN connections but be wary, since a dropped WAN or VPN link can stall the SMP client, even in Vista.

to elaborate on this, it's technically possible to setup a ftp or http share pointing on the client so you can monitor it anywhere. However, the complexity level skyrocket so it's not always worth the hassle unless you are a expert in this stuff.

 
thanks for the info, i would have figured it out but last night i was trying to visualize my build, i am going to actually build it later tonight , since my 8800GT came in yesterday!:D
 
i just shared the Folding@home-gpu and it seems to be working great now, i had a problem where it said HUNG but it turns out you need to have the machine time synced to the local machine,

Yeah, Fahmon is really bad about that and I find it annoying. However, I've had a lot of trouble with FahSpy and Linux so I'm forced to use Fahmon.

I wish EMIII was still supported and updated. It's still the best monitoring program in my opinion.

 
Had my Fahmon crash and it would not restart this morning, even after reboot... I reinstalled it and luckily all 22 clients were still properly identified. :) Little things like that can be annoying to restore if they get fubar'd.

I kinda' got the "hang" of this picture posting deal (I think). I guess you just "double click" the URL above and it shows my FAHmon 2.3.2b networked boxen. The label "diskless" are OC'ed (3.0 GHz) E6600's that are "headless, "diskless" and about as close as you can get to "caseless", they're runnin' the notfred CD's (they're in cases, just no sides or front plastic stuff), the labels Q6600 2/1 and 2/6 are a OC'ed to 3.0 GHz Q6600 G0 runnin' 2x LinSMP clents in Ubuntu 8.04 with a KDE front end (desktop), the labels Q6600 1/1 and 1/2 are a Q6600 G0 OC'ed to 3.0 GHz and is also runnin' 2x LinSMP's in Ubuntu 8.04 (I love my Ubuntu :p) with a KDE front end (GUI, desktop, pretty picture on the monitor :rolleyes:).

The labels Q6600 1/1 and 1/2 is the "host" boxen. The other shortcuts on the desktop besides the Firefox and terminal shortcuts are the mounted folders on the other machines (2x E6600's, 1x Q6600) and configured in the "share" mode in SAMBA for network access.

FOLD ON!

I certainly hope this helps a little bit. I have no ideer how I could know what my "headless and diskless" boxen were doin' without being able to access them via network.

Edit: Oh yeah, being a small time "networker" I have no ideer how to set up FAHmon on a network that is separate from the "host" mo'chine.

 
Mine FahMon screen shot looks like ..........

I'm hopefully dropping the top four clients as thier PpD is not high enough and adding four more GPU clients soon.
