F@H v.5 beta available

Autopause for laptops when running in battery mode.

!!!!!

edit: Looks like this beta expires 8/30. I guess the army of laptops waiting to be borged will have to wait :(

It looks like when this goes to final, it will help with a lot of problems that people have. I like the idea of the built-in service installer. As long as everything works, this will be very nice.

I just hope the new stuff doesn't break any of the old stuff.

I've got it running on my PC here at work... so far so good... picked up right where v4 left off on the protein...

One thing I noticed is that they got rid of the -forcesse(-forceSSE) flag... back to being -forceasm for any/all processors... they did add a -configonly flag which should come in handy for those of us who config each client without a mass-installer... should keep you from getting that dreaded tinker as the first WU (though they are worth more points now :D )

Keep on Folding!!

So far so good on v5... The only problem I've noticed (Larry, if you're out there) is that EMIII seems to returning odd info... if you click below the little monitor that shows which core you're running, it pops up the WU info and you can scan through them... but if you click display current WU, it always goes to 00... which has no info... and when I'm currently working on unit 02.... Not quite sure what the confusion is there... maybe v5 changed the location of the info EMIII gets?

The v5 client should convert the queue.dat file correctly. Don't try to go back to v4 though, that will screw things up badly.

The -forcesse flag isn't neccessary anymore since they fixed the issue with AMD CPUs and SSE while doing Gromacs WUs.

That flag has been around since v4. ;)

Change log for v5:
Changes in F@H Client v. 5.00
--------------------------------------

- Collection server support. If a client finishes a work unit from
a Work server with this feature enabled, then if 2 upload
attempts to that server fail, the client will return to the
work unit to a Collection server. Pending credit will be given
for the unit, becoming final when the Work server comes back up
and verifies what the Collection server has received. All work
servers will eventually be associated with a Collection server,
and many already are.
- Configuration option to allow downloads and uploads greater
than 5 MB in size, which some new projects will require due
to the size of what they are simulating.
- G@H configuration option reworded to be "No deadline" option.
- Print executable name and launch directory to log.
- Fix for bug where queue slot could get stuck "Fetching"
- MyFolding links updated.

Linux specific:
- OpenBSD support: If give flag -openBSD, client will automatically make
elf2olf system call on downloaded Cores.

Windows specific:
- Configuration option to pause work when the computer is using
battery power (for laptops).
- Behavior in response to a shutdown or logoff of the system should be
improved (exiting nicely).
- Console: Built in service installation support through Configuration, to
have the program automatically begin at machine startup. If one wishes, the
service can be further configured and interacted with through the Services
tool (GUI) that can be accessed through the Windows Settings (under
Administrative Tools in 2000/NT). The Sc command line tool may also be used.
There are known issues with the Net tool.
- GUI: Larger window size and more informative display.
- GUI: Screensaver configuration option.
- GUI: Print a message to FAHlog.txt when ask to network.

Larry already knows about this issue and has provided a fix to people on the beta team. This happens whenever a new client changes the format of the queue.dat file. My guess is he probably won't release an updated EMIII until F@H v5 goes final.

Glad to hear he's already taken care of it... I guess I need to be browsing more folding fourms than just this one :D

v5 going final Sept 1? or before? I know the beta expires on 8/30... I wasn't sure if the final (or beta 2?) would be released on 8/30 or before...

With v4 there was more than 1 pre-release version before going final, so I wouldn't count on the final version being here by 9/1. I can't remember if it happened on any of the pre-release versions, but Pande Group has lost track of time in the past with the beta expiration dates and let them expire without coming out with a new beta until reminded. These beta and pre-release versions will continue to run beyond the expiration date if already running, just don't try to stop and restart the client after the expiration, it won't work.

Looks correct to me, so it must be a server issue.
