F@H beta 5.04

"This maintenance version allows configuration of the amount of memory to indicate available, especially useful when running multiple "big unit" clients on a single machine. It also allows for the setting of -advmethods as a persistent option through the Configuration."

Beta Clients

Everyone, try it out and report back your findings.

It's working for me. Edit: not exactly a fair test of new features since I set it all to max. The -adv flag in the config was a plus. Gave it all my RAM (2047) with -adv pulled a QMD.

Awesome. Guess the titan pullout really affected the academic team to put this up. Will try it up on the 512 pc here. :)

I'm going to have to try it tonight. I'm looking forward to getting a new version of F@H on my Xeon rig. I had a little mishap and got 4 QMDs on 1gig ram (all my fault because I included the adv flag). I was measuring time between mouse clicks in days - that's if the mouse clicks registered :). Yay for a new beta!

I'll try it on my two main home PC's that way I can better monitor them.

Well I've got it running on my work boxen right now. So far so good! :D

Must give that a try when I get home...

Keep on Folding!! For the [H]orde!!

wow... that's a lot of mem usage

i wonder if they've had this ready for some time, just waiting for an opportunity like this to come up to say "see, we listen! and we get stuff done!"

anyone know if they've fixed squid yet? i've got 30+ potential borgs coming, but i need squid support (or i have to get polipo installed at the school as well)
mwhahaha

and you all thought nothing would get done... :p
Not to bust your balls Moosy but......

No but it says a lot that nothing was done for the 6 months before and that it took Jim threatening to quite before anyone would 1) listen, 2)explain what was going on, 3)recognize the problem publicly. Then the fact that the solution was implemented so fast also speaks poorly for what was being said for months...ie there was no problem. If there was no problem why was there a solution far enough along to be out that fast?

Ack Moose in the mist

Ahh well missed the sarcasm part.

You often don't know it was used until it's too late. :p

Maybe I should explain this better.

I work in a related field and on of the big keys to what we do involves work that some people find contentious. The reason? Lack of interaction on our part with the public. For a long time it was assumed that the general public didn't want to know, didn't need to know, and quite frankly wasn't educated enough to understand what we do and why..........and taht we were right so it didn't matter. Scientists thought they knew better than everyone else....so they worked in isolation, in our nice, insular, cozy, dreamland. Then one day the community slowly began to realize that we had screwed up as we found new regulations forced on us by people who were reacting out of fear and did not know what was being done or how it was being done becasue we had excluded them. This has lead to a pretty uneasy situation at least in certain parts of the scientific community as our hands are being tied by people who we made fear the work we do that can help them but may never now because of our own belief in our superiority. That is why when that kind of arrogance rears it's head it bugs me. This is also why I don't say were I work, or what I do.

I don't know, I think that you're probably the master of the craft at the moment.... ;)

Sorry, I won't be able to install the beta tonight. The evening flew by, and I ended up watching the movie One Flew over the Cuckoos Nest instead of installing the beta. Till tomorrow...

well a "*(#@&ing time" goes to the team for taking so long to listen to the user base (not that this should have been an issue at all in "unobtrusive" software) .. I can FINALLY start doing something useful again. (I've been running in basic mode on most all machines due to this issue.)

.. and a "#)&#ing thanks" as well I suppose now that it is done :D

fold on.

sharp

This doesn't really effect me but I think it's funny that people have been reporting this issue for months and nothing happens. But then someone huge gues nuts and it's fixed in less than a weeks. Couldn't have been that hard of a feature. I have nothing against Stanford, just a stupid musing by a stupid person.

its about time, not that it really affected me, but the people who were having problems must sure like it!

Well I've been running it on 4 of my 5 boxen and it's been running just fine. The big thing of note, since I started it on my Xeon box at work, that one has finally started getting QMD's. For some reason, the prior iterations of the console on that box, even with big WU's and -advmethods, would only garner the 241 point tinkers.

I would just caution any that run this, that if you give it everything, and go with the big WU's and advmethods, prepare to get the beta proteins en masse.
