just wondering if you're performance was like mine (consistently seeming like 1 GPU) rather than "stuttery" like that thread says. im hopeful that this'll work but im not sure as I don't have any slowdown or stuttering...its just always running at a 1 GPU performance level (38fps vs. 72fps when 2 GPUs work). i know in another thread somebody fixed a similar "1 gpu even tho its set to use both" problem in BF2 by deleting some cache files. anybody know of any files I can delete regarding F.E.A.R.?

Yes my performance was a lot like yours, I would half to restart my PC to get my games to run right and even then it was slugish and became unplayable after a few min. of gaming. My FPS would start out at the norm, and take a dive to the 20's 3DMark wouldn't run right and when it did my scores were low. I put in the Dual-Core fix and BAM! My gaming world was turned upsidedown.

1. added those 2 lines to boot.ini
2. restart
3. run F.E.A.R. uninstalled version - 38fps
4. run F.E.A.R. installed version - 38fps
5. get back to desktop, go back to this page on IE and my graphics card goes to black for half a second then back to the dekstop - as if changing resolutions or something...even tho I did nothing
6. run F.E.A.R. installed version - 28fps
7. run F.E.A.R. uninstalled version - 28fps
8. really fucking angry...for the 800th time in the last week
9. restart
10. run F.E.A.R. installed version - 70fps

...what the fuck. im going to go back in game now (installed obv, that uninstalled was fucking me somehow). hopefully i get the 70fps. note that as I said before I was never able to get the installed version to 70-72fps (expected performance) as it was 58fps that one time a couple days ago before it reverted back to 38.

back to 37fps. im going to try the manual thing in task manager now...i think somehow the game is fucking with stuff

Just out of curiosity, what programs do you have running in the back round? And what PSU do you have?

P.S. If everything cheks out then truble shoot your Motherboard, and if thats ok you might have a bad card (assuming the worst).

programs are just AIM, winamp and fraps. 600W PSU
i dont think its a bad card because most other things that I've tried work (Oblivion, Source, 3dmark).

I just tried the set affinity manually and it did not help.

I'm thinking at this point that its a graphics card, setting, or F.E.A.R. cache problem. Ugh. Dual-core fix was a good idea but it doesn't seemed to have helped. These random 70fps runs seem to be just that...random. Except they always happen on first launch of the game after boot...but they don't happen every time.

Well, do you have softshadows on? And what brand is your PSU?

softshadows off and my PSU is:

COOLMAX "EZ Wire" CU-600T ATX 600W Power Supply - Retail

Mike Ryna- My roommate was experiencing the exact same problems you are (crap performance in all games) on his a8n sli premium. We tried everything in the book and even reformatted but the problem still prevails! Are you running win32 or x64? I'm starting to wonder if it's an xp 64 thing...

*edit* Ah I see you're on x64.

I stopped at going back to 32 bt for the sake of frustration; I suggest you start there.

Also, we have tried the card on a friend's crossfire board running win32 and 91.33, we had much better results at completely stock driver settings, the 91.33 are also way less buggy it would seem.

As far as I can tell it's a xp64 + driver issue, too bad nvidia has yet to release a new x64 driver.

if this is an nvidia driver issue fuck them i pay $600 for their card and i get this...

not to mention the $575 i paid a month ago for the now sub-$300 4600+

at least it still works in other apps...

yeah we've sunk about 30 hours into the project so far ;) Like I said the card worked really good on the 32 bit crossfire setup though! Probably going to get flamed for this but from this experience I've learned that SLI is more a PITS than it's worth, it's more effective to go with a faster single card solution IMO than go SLI and deal with the profile/driver glitch frustration.

I'm wondering about the 64bit windows thing too, also I'm wondering if he may just have a bad motherboard, or card.

I'm almost certain that if you haven't done something really n00b to your hardware that it's a software issue.

let me say again that so far all other games are OK...it didnt start out that way (i believe it was a RAID NCQ issue that i fixed) but as of now its just F.E.A.R.

I had a real bad time with Windows Xp 64bits and read more then one time that MS did I really crappy job with these one.

Since I'm back to XP 32 everything is ok.

By the odd behaveour of your system, looks like a fresh new install could be the case.
