eyefinity horizontal line on displayport

I think I had this in the wrong forum before-

I have a 6950 with 3 monitors, 2 on DVI and 1 using an active display adaptor made by Accell. The adaptor is mini DP to DVI and is approved by AMD up to 1920x1200 which is what I am running it at.

I occaisionally get a horizontal line that travels up. I have swapped monitors and cables but the issue follows the displayport.

I can live with it but anyone else ever get this? I just use it on the side monitor.

When do you get it? Gaming? Or when at your desktop? Are you in eyefinity mode when it happens, or does it also happen in your extended desktop profile?

When I am in eyefinity mode on the desktop, if I watch a video in one of the sides screens (both on DVI), I'll get some horizontal lines traveling up the screen during video playback. However, my center screen using the display port connection doesn't do this. And if I switch to my extended desktop profile, none of the screens do this.

It occurs when I am gaming in eyefinity mode. I haven't noticed it any other time. I tried to call Accell today to see if I could get support but ended up emailing them since I could not get ahold of them. I'd hate to exchange it if nothing is wrong but I may try soon.

I just noticed this today also now that you mentioned it.

Eyefinity here with the same accel adapter

I am using the accel adapter too, and here have been reports of the dual link varieties flickering (among other things), but I've not read a whole lot on the standard single link active adapter exhibiting this behavior. I'll pay special attention to my screen now and see if I get the same issue.

There are adapters from Saphire that you an use...might be a better bet. Newegg has them for $26 IIRC.

I can reproduce the issue in Windows easily also. Just take an IE window (opened to hardforum now works) and move it slowly left to right and watch it tear and line horizontally. I just tried to repro it with only the displayport monitor on and it will not reporduce.

Interesting. I was messing around and now both of my DVI monitors are doing it instead of the adaptor one. I also could not repro in any dup or extended mode, only eyfinity. I hope I can get it back to the other way since 1 problem screen is better then 2.

In Eyefinity mode, my two minitors on DVI connections reproduce the horizontal lines when moving windows or watching video. However, it extended desktop mode, the issue goes away...and in eyefinity gaming the monitors don't have the lines. The monitor on the accel adapter does not have the issue in either mode.

If you are on your desktop, switch to an extended desktop profile. Eyefinity for desktop work is actually rather crappy...really only useful in gaming. This should solve your issue with the lines.

anyone got a solution on this? I have the same problem. I run several games in windowed mode so changing profile wont help me much..
In the newest driver, i changed "preferred display" and it changed the problem to another screen...

There is no solution to the problem, its a design defect. I stopped running Eyefinity for most game now, the moving line was catching my eye every couple minutes and driving me crazy.

The only way to fix this problem, is to get a 6990 and use 3 display ports.

Or one of the Asus 6950's or 6970's that have 4 display ports on it.

Just a warning too you cannot Xfire those Asus cards with other cards, they can only be crossfired with the same card because of the way the ports are on the Asus cards.

Good luck

not sure if this is the issue but is it a vsync issue? i know i had read that Eyefinity had some Vsync issues, might be worth looking into

I used to get this problem while watching movies, also using the accell active DP DVI adapter, on my old 5870 XFire. Although the line was stationary for me and it would sit there constantly unless I refreshed the display. It was really weird, went away after my upgrade to 6950 XF, also had to do away with the accell because of mini DP. The line looks as if someone cut my monitor in half horizontally and then pasted it back together slightly off centered.
