Eyefinity does not work with WoW dX11

I have an Eyefinity triple screen setup, been playing WoW at 5760x1200res on my three Dell 27" since last year.

Reading up on some Cataclysm news, I heard about setting specific DirectX 11, path in the WTF config file. I added the line SET gxApi "d3d11"

http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/world-of-warcraft-cataclysm-directx-11-performance,2793-7.html

Then I logged back into WoW, and for the life of me would not work, just defaulted to 1920x1200res, I tired everything under the sun, and it would not go larger. I then deleted that line from the config file and it worked at the triple res like before. I am curious why it didn't work ?

Experimental support for DX11 (can be enabled by passing ‘-d3d11’ on the command line or adding SET gxApi "d3d11" to the Config.WTF file)

From the patch notes.

That's funny because I just read the same article @ Toms and made the same change to my config file with the same monitor setup. However, I was in game and didn't log in afterwards to check it.

Thanks for the heads up you probably saved me a bunch of confused debugging time. I would have probably forgotten about the DX11 thing and gone off debugging in the woods...

Before I quit WoW, I was using dx11 with my eyefinity setup and had no issues at all. Not sure with Cata though as I wont be playing it :p

Slightly off topic, but what does eyefinity WoW look like? Can you setup your windows in different monitors? SS plz?

It's great for moving windows around and also stuffing things you don't use often (like trade chat, recount, others off to the side that can easily be accessed but don't get in the way.

I love how you have the same spell keybinded like 5 times.
DK's ftw amirite rofl...

This picture is old, from Summer, when Blood-dps was still king, and had a fixed rotation. Gosh how I miss that spec and fixed spell casting.

DX11 killed the performance of my NV Surround setup. Of course your running an AMD card and are running into other issues, but keep in mind that Blizzard doesn't offer much support for multi-monitor users. We are a small crowed.

After playing WoW w/ multi monitors, I can't imagine going back. My only gripe would be that Blizzard doesn't seem to support it very well. For example, after killing a monster that yields experience the xp indicator/text is massive on the screen. The problem has been around for a while; many have complained about this issue. Yet, after over a year, they've not fixed it.

Good point about the big text after a kill, thought that was just me :) Overall Eyefinity works great for me on 3 Dell 27" screens. But for sure need the 6970 VideoCard next week, the large open zones do bring frame rates down, with Ultra settings, and water detail set to max, etc...

Eyefinity works with DX11. What you have to do is set it to Windowed(Fullscreen) for it to work.

I run WoW in DX11 with eyefinity, the problem is it doesn't show you the eyefinity resolution. I have mine Windowed(Full Screen) but it still says the resolution is 1920 x 1200.

This hack just made my night, my setup runs even better now in wow.. Cant wait to fire up my U3011 tomorrow when it gets in!!

I did try that, but the game felt super choppy and slow in Windowed mode. And it looked no different than with normal full Ultra settings

What about monitor setting in-game options ? There is Primary or Monitor 1, what do you have it set to ?

I loaded up WoW last night just to see if it worked, it saw my 3240x1980 resolution and it set everything up in Ultra on it's own. I am getting the itch to play but I have a back log of games to play that I am sure that it will stay that way if I start playing WoW again.

That doesn't matter with eyefinity. With eyefinity its all one monitor. If you have eyefinity off and using extended desktop, thats where the monitor 1,2, or 3 matter.

I was suspecting problems after reading this post, but it seems like my Eyefinity setup is working fine with DX11 path in the config file.

What does the load up screen look like ? When I added the Dx11 path to Config, it would start up with 3 separate log in menus, one for each monitor, and not show the option for the triple wide screen resolution, just showed my native 1920x1200.

Your saying, just go into the actual game, and it will default back to the Eyefinity 5760x1200res ?

The login menu and in-game experience was the same (normal) for both DX9 and DX11 paths.

FYI I added the DX11 setting to the config file but I have not verified that it took effect (though I have no reason to think otherwise).

WoW is downloading as we speak. I'll give you an update on how my Eyefinity setup works out.

Thats normal, but if you change it to Windowed (Full Screen) it should change it to your native eyefinity resolution. Note: The resolution will still say 1920 x 1200.

Eyefinity doesn't hardly work with anything without going through a ton of patch/fixes or other troubles to make a game work with it. Whole reason I sold my eyefinity setup, biggest waste of money.

Adding this DirectX11 command line to my Config folder, does not make the game look any better, compared to when I set the in-game options to Ultra, top settings maxed out, looks the same to me.

Maybe it's supposed to run smoother ? But for me to make I work, then I have to run in Windowed full screen mode, which normally is more taxing on the system, compared to normal Eyefinity setting of 5760x1200res set in-game.

Oh well, I don't see any difference whatsoever adding this DirectX11 path, compared to Ultra settings, will remove it.

I've not had any problems with any of the games I've played so far...? Best computer investment I've made probably in the past 3 years (8800GTX being the last). Completely changed the way I game and was exactly what I needed to respark my interest in PC gaming.

what games work?

name a few games you play...

CSS, full of bugs.
UT3... not supported
FEAR & FEAR 2 ... not supported
BC2... worked... if you are ok with the screens blacking out for half the time you play.
MW2, didn't work without having to fun a program that could get you banned for hacking
even Dirt 2... the game that came with my 5850 and was the big sell for eyefinity was full of bugs and half the time I load the game the side monitors would go black and never turn on tell 30mins of messing with settings and restarting the game.

name the game, I have it, I played it, didn't support it or was full of bugs

They sold you that is for sure, but I don't waste my time with things that are full of bugs and don't work correctly

AVP was the only game though that I will reside my anger for Eyefinity, that game was amazing in eyefinity and I played every minute of that game in the dark and was enjoying every minute of it.

CS:S = Runs fine for me, a couple "wall glitches" but nothing that deters me from playing the game.
BC2 = The only time the other monitors "black out" is during cinematics and I could care less about that.
Crysis/Crysis Warhead = Runs fine (taxing on the system but thats Crysis...)
Metro 2033 = Runs fine (taxing as well but that again is because of the game)
AVP = Runs great.
WoW = Runs great.
GTA4 = Runs great.

These are the games that I generally play and I haven't had any problems in them other than some slow downs here and there (Crysis and Metro 2033) but thats because of the large resolution and would be the same if I gamed on a single 2560x1600 monitor.

iRacing, GTR2, GTR Evo, MoH (talk about a waste of money), Civ 4 and 5, FEAR with a simple ini fix. Wife played WoW on it last night without issue.

Fallout3 blew because, as is generally the case, the developers don't set the front end and graphics engine to handle wild resolutions.

Quite a few games "work", but alot of them that "work" they support the resolution but the FOV is not suppoted.
