Hi all, hope someone can help me out... :(

I have intel E6600 core2duo, with the stock heatsink, running default settings.

Today i turned on my computer to find a warning saying H/W monitor status - check heatsink/ CPU temp / fans. Then my computer shut down.
I restarted my machine & entered into the bios to find extreme CPU temps. its was sitting at 91oC with the Vcore at 1.17..?

I shut down everything & opened up my case & reinstalled my stock Heatsink.
turned on my system to find that nothing had changed..

Does anyone have any ideas what is wrong with my system..? do i need a new heatsink or something..?

Can you boot into the OS and use a utility, like Coretemp, to check the temperatures? Or does the computer just reboot..
 
when i leave my system off for a while, i start up & just get to the windows xp boot screen before it crashes..but if i try multiable times, its crashes at the bios screen... :(

When i start up my system, everything inside my case runs as normal.. fans, heatsink, gfx card, etc. but it aways crashed.. :confused:

I'm normally dead on with computer builting & to be honest, this is the most confused ive ever been with a computer problem...:confused:
 
91oC with the Vcore at 1.17..?

thats the thermal overload protection inside the chip reducing Vcore in an attempt to keep the cpu from frying.


You have not seated the stock intel cooler properly. It takes a lot of force, so much it will hurt your thumb, to seat the pushpins that hold it on the board.

Check and make sure the pins are turned the correct way. Push like hell on each one. If there is anyway you can slip something under the MB, thick cardboard, the kind with the air pockets in it, to help reduce the flex but still let the tips of the pins poke fully thru and seat, do it.

I hate doing it with the board in, best bet but pain in butt is to take the board out, and redo the pins on a table, with the foam from the MB box under the board and push the bejezzus out of them till they CLICK, flip the board over and look carefully and make sure all 4 look the same and are fully poking thru to the backside.

Computer builting?

It seems your heatsink isnt seated properly anymore, try re-applying again, sometimes you can put it on wrong several times before its right. Those stock springs can fool you.
 
sorry guys, my grammer is crap,lol... i meant computer building... :p

i think that will be the best idea to take everything out & rebuild it all from scratch... i honestly thought my heatsink was in properly, really tight on the board like.. i'll get back to you guys when i'm all done... ;)

I was only joking with you, about the spelling, hopefully you didnt take it the wrong way :) Its a good idea to start over, and try putting your heatsink on before you put the motherboard in the case, its much easier this way.

Its good to hear you got it under control, and im glad you understood I was just messing with you :) Now have fun with that nice cpu you got!
