Howdy all,
A friend of mine is currently looking for an external hard drive she can use with her laptop after a computer crash almost cost her her senior project. Seeing that I have zero experience with external hard drives, I have no idea what kind of advice I can give her. I'd appriciate it if you could could point me in the right direction! I think her laptop only has an original USB (e.g. not 2.0) port, though I still need to check with her on it. Thanks ahead of time! :)
 
depends upon how much space she needs
best backup method might be either a 512mb usb flash disk
or onto CD media

any of the new external enclosures support USB2 which will run backwards on the origional USB1.1 just at the slower speed
one thing to look into is to see if her lappy has a firewire port on it which is the same speed as USB2.0
a loaded 40gb drive with usb only is about $100-120
and one with USB and firewire is $120-140
from compusa or newegg
