External Enclosure HD Issues

I today bought an external enclosure, its a wego USB 2.0 hard disk enclosure that I got from a local PC shop. I have an old IBM Seagate 7200RPM 60gig hard drive from my old desktop that I want to use with my new Powerbook. I installed everything and tried to connect it to the Powerbook

I got an error that it contains no Mac OS Volumes and that I can't use it. The directions that came with the Enclosure say its compatible with OS i just have to run fdisk and partition it. I tried erasing it with OSX disk utility but I got an unknown error. I hooked it up to an XP machine, it recognizes that a USB mass storage device is present, but in my computer it doesn't show.. I tried going to disk management to format it, but it isn't there either.

Suggestions?
 
what's it set to? master/slave/cable select? Have you tried flipping them around? It should show up in disk management after a while. You can try fdisk in dos and create a partition manually and then try it in windows.
 
it's set to master. it says in the directions of the Enclosure to set it to master
 
i've decided to get an external drive instead. i think my hard drive is bust, since it's old.

I'm thinkin of either a Lacie 160gig triple interface, or a Lacie 160gig USB2

or maybe get a regular hard drive, and get an enclosure.. i don't know.
 
CC and Outpost have WD 120's for like 79 after rebates right now. Not a bad deal.
