Do some enclosures have a size restriction on the size of hard drives they can use?
I've seen an enclosure advertised as "Up to 500GB". Is that enclosure likely to only support drives up to 500gb?
 
Eh, i had a usb adapter that says up to 750 GB but i hooked a 1 TB drive up with no problems.

Yes to everything. But in some cases you can use larger drives.
