I just finished setting up an 8 Drive raid array (raid 6) if I ever expand the raid array with addtional drives will I be able to extend the partition onto this new space with windows home server if the disk is a "Basic" disk?

I have a raid array I have done this with in the past but it was Dynamic and WHS throws an error when I try to convert the new one to Basic, I just want to make sure I will be able to extend the partition onto the new space with a Basic disk. Thanks.

Last time I did this was under windows 7.

What I found was that you can expand (or compact) a partition as a basic disk providing the space your expanding into is next to the current partition.

If you try to expand a partition and there is another in the way windows will convert the disk to a dynamic disk to get the job done.

So expanding the array should be fine as the space is on the "disk" or next contiguous space not partitioned?

there's no requirement to have a disk in dynamic mode for partition extension. if you want more info do a quick search of the forum - its been covered ad nauseum.
