Experience with ThermalTake SilentBoost Cooler

Hi, just bought a SilentBoost Cooler for the rig below, was wondering what people's experiences are with this HSF? I'm pretty picky about noise and am not that much of an enthusiast for the latest/greatest etc...so I'm just looking for something that'll work....thanks.

I have one on my AthlonXP. Works great for stock speeds, and light overclocks with low voltage, and my 120mm case fan easily drowns out the fan on the HSF. If you start juicing the CPU up with more voltage or try for large overclocks however, it's quickly overpowered.

I have a silent boost. With a athlon 2500xp clocked 3200 with a gigabyte GA-7N400 pro2 I get 53 C.

i bought the silent boost and later installed a slk-800 and used the fan....best fan i have seen for that noise level slk gets 70 F stock with that fan =) i got sick case air flow tho

I too have a Silent Boost on a Barton 2500+ OC'ed to 3200+ Idles at 45ish in a 30 degree room and hits 55ish under extended load. WAY quieter than my old Volcano 7+ anyhow. the rest of the fans in the case are much louder than the HSF.

ive heard of really good temps and ocs with this hsf, espessially in sfffs. speaking of which, my cooling needs to be upgraded

installed it this afternoon, CPU temps dropped by about 6-8C, didn't have AS around so just used silicon

but the great thing about this puppy is that it's QUIET. Coupled with the noisetaker, a quiet barracuda, and a foampadded lian-li 6070, i thankfully for the first time in who knows how long have a near-silent case.

All in all, not a bad fan, not great, but gets the job done and very very low noise.

I'm running the system right now at 100% CPU Folding@Home. Temps are 54.5c CPU / 39C System, fan is turning at 2576 rpm, and this sucker is quiet.

I really like the SB coupled with the SilentTek/ Silent BIOS. At low performance the fan will slow down to about 700 RPM and finally shut off. It was scary the first time I heard the fan shut off.
I've been thinking abouit getting a Thermalright XP-120, but I may not do it. I've been a long time beliver in Thermalright, but the SB has changed my mind about Thermaltake. For the price any of the SB can't be beat.

BTW the system is pulling 180 watts right now. With the 9800 O/C about 10% it pulls 200.

do you guys think the 21dBA rating is accurate?

I have one and will hook it up to a SLK-900A pretty soon (for a mobile Barton) and will report back

I don't think so. It appears that Thermaltake measures their sound levels at a farther distance compared to anyone else... their larger fans seem to agree. A ball-sleeve 92mm fan, spinning at 2500rpm produces only 21dBA of noise and 52cfm of airflow, where a 92mm Panaflo Medium (also around 2500rpm), produces 30dBA and 48cfm of airflow. You do the math...

I've also heard that the K7 Silent Boosts can come with an Everflow fan, possibly skewing the 21dBA rating. This 21dBA rating probably comes from a Silent Boost equipped with a real 80mm Panaflo Medium.
