My old external HDD is finally full, and I've decided to get something that is still plug and play, but more secure. I decided a two bay enclosure with on-board RAID 1 was the way to go.

After a couple of days spending an hour here or there researching, I've come across these three:

http://oyendigital.com/hard-drives/store/CB3R-S.html
http://www.newertech.com/products/gmax.php
http://www.cooldrives.com/usb2-sata-mini-raid-system-sata-raid.html

Does anyone have any experience with this type of enclosure? Do you know of any better ones? I can't find any reviews/articles on these that I'd fully trust.

Did you read the description for the CoolDrive unit......

I'd be passing on that one!

Small Net Builder is where you wanna look for those NAS type units.

Ahh, that's a legit observation, so yeah, I'll pass on that one. I'm not really looking for a NAS though, that's why none of these units has an ethernet port. I'm pretty much looking for something that's plug-and-play via eSATA, firewire, or USB 2.0, has on-board RAID 1, and is hot-swappable so I have the option/ability to replace a bad drive.

IC says the blind Old Hippie but with those requirements maybe you otta consider a NAS.:D

BTW...choice #1 is Firewire and USB...no eSATA.
