Exciting new Conroe Info @ IDF!

Yea, for once I'm excited about Intel's chips! The single cycle SSE execution sounds really really good (I bet they spent lots of transistors to get that accomplished). The question is that does it include SSE or SSE/SSE2.

Edit: Intel is now claiming 65W TDP for the conroe, thats very impressive.

According to Intel Conroe will offer a 40% increase in performance and a 40% decrease in power comsumption over the current Pentium D line! Well, with that been said I cannot wait to see some benchmarks!

juat becase its official now, i like the 28 second pent d 950 benchmark vs the 11 second conroe benchmark

I am thiinking that these processors (conroe) will be available in the summer.

AMD is gonna get owned, which rocks for us, because they will make an even better product and drive prices way down for all of us.

<3 Competition

If I had to speculatively bet, based on Intel's public comments about being very aggressive in trying to deliver their "savior" to market as soon as possible, I'd pick July/August as the timeframe.

I can't see it going beyond that at this point, unless something happens in validation that gives pause. Intel seems very able to supply 65nm in large quantities, it's such a strength for them that I can't see Conroe not happening before September 1st.

I'm waiting for Conroe no matter how long it takes. Intel enthusiasts need something to smile about and Conroe is hopefully the processor that we have been waiting for.

Damn, those benchmarks are impressive, beating an overclocked FX-60 like that. I can't wait for Conroe to come out, but how much do you think it will cost? It seems like they are giving it a great push which means it probably won't cost as much as an EE (which is good).

What benchmarks? I didn't see any in that article....LOL...now you post them :D.

Oh well...too bad we have to wait 6 months for that stuff :(.

Holy crap! With the FX60 OVERCLOCKED. Let's start clearing our credit cards :D

*pause* NOOOOOO we have to wait 6 months :D Ah well, but Jesus, imagine the XE @ 3.33GHz? ;)

They actually expect Intel to release the series around the end of June. I was supprised too...my friend bought a X2 and was ready to burst into tears.

this is making me seriously reconsider purchasing a 165 opty... that is, of course, provided conroe is price competitive and/or oc's well. but given the low TDP of these cores, I don't see why they wouldn't have oodles of headroom. I can't wait for pricing information!

EDIT: I mean really, the one they tested isn't even the 3.0gHz EE version, and it spanked the FX like a bitch.

wow i just bought some stock in amd this morning...

the question is, how much are they going to cost

Conroe is not supposed to break the bank. The lower-end ones are supposed to cost little more than preslers. They've been delayed a month or so from last year's projection so expect them in about 4 months. That's a solid projection since it's so close.

In the mean time, AOPEN just released a Yonah board for the desktop. I don't know which retailers have them. But, those who tested them have been giving high expectations for their overclockability. Yonah should start the ball-rolling on the X2's demise.

I am telling you The XE 3.33GHz - 1333MHz FSB will be out in June / July. It is slated to be the first Conroe CPU out.

Sure its 1000$... but is it not worth it?

If a 2.66GHz Conroe w/ 1066FSB & DDR2 667 can do this....

What can a 3.33GHz w/ 1333FSB $ DDR2 800 do?

Im all over it like white on rice

The XE to be the "first Conroe CPU out" seems crazy marketing? I don't see the logic. But it'll be impressive if this is what happens, as the XEs will be harder to produce from what I know.

we've been telling everyone to wait for the benchmarks.....................

now that they're out, let's make the Intel forum a much livelier one. ;)

Oh yah, if Conroe comes out before I start college (next september) I am DEFINATELY getting one.

And I'll wait as long as necessary to get a Merom based X-series or T-series from IBM/Lenovo

Four months of one-handed clapping? I hope you're not serious :p

I see you and Poncho's idea of "amazing" now. I was in awe of Intel today; far far from the feeling i had when i saw prescott.

I'm teasing

say if i had a 939s rig could i upgrade the mobo/ram/cpu when conroe comes out?

The performance of this chip is nothing short of amazing.

It was a warm feeling to see This Chip destroy the FX60 however, I really want to see this conroe 2.66GHz directly against a 2.66GHz Pentium D... just for S&G to see how much of an improvement we are comming from.
