I have been running Exchange 2003 on a centos 5.2 with 32 bit vmware server. a couple of weeks ago we just built a 16 core, 16gb memory with 5tb of space for a new vmware server. we moved over our DC, and Exchange server with no issues. We now have for the host CentOS 5.6 64 bit and vmware server 2.02 also 64 bit.

here is the issue. it seems that sometime during the night the information store seems to dismount itself. this never happened on the old server. I have gone thru the logs but haven't found anything out of the ordinary. Now I would think this is isolated to the one exchange server, but I run another exchange server with different domains, and its doing the same thing.

Has anyone else had this issue after upgrading to vmware server 202?

Stop running VMware Server and move to ESXi. At least the free version. Anyone I've ever known that actually ran VMware Server in production dropped it for ESXi due to quirkiness.
 
I have ran the free vm server (1.0) for 4 years with no issues other than my host server running out of disc space. That would be the VMware vSphere Hypervisor? If I don't have to have a linux host this might be a good thing also. I'm downloading the bootable image 4.1 now.

I think they played around with the names a while back and ESXi is now vSphere Hypervisor or something.

And wow, running Exchange, etc on Vmware server?

I haven't had an issue until we moved to the new vmware server. Exchange does pretty well if you throw enough memory and cpu at it.

I have downloaded the ISO of the hypervisor and will do some reading up on it. right now Money is something that we don't have alot of in my budget, so I have to go with the free version for now.

Did this change at some point? I always heard it referred to as ESXi - and only ever heard vsphere mentioned in connection with the mgmt system.

vsphere is a brand name for ESX / ESXi + VC. :)

Technically, I believe it's "VMware vSphere ESXi" and the like.
