Once upon a time there was a little Folder name "EvilAlchemist" or as his friends called him ...... Awesome-O .... ;-)

Last night, I was doing some normal maintance to my watercooling rig. I turned the system off, and topped off the tank. A little bit of liquid ran down inside the case .... i was like ... ohh crap ....I turned the system back on and the cooling system was making all kind of alarm. I then remebered that Koolance Liquid is electrically conduction.

I disassembled the entire Cooling setup. Cleaned and Dryed all the boards, put it back together and got is running.

But something odd had happened. My computer room was almost 8 degrees cooler.

Even with 6 other boxen in the room, this one system was the one putting out all the heat.
So, I listed the case on e-bay ... sold it within 3 hours and purchased the LIAN LI PC-A70B Case.

It will be here Thursday and I will have to rebuild the system on Friday.

Since I am down 2000PPD, gives some of you a few days to catch up a little.

Wait, who do I need to catch up to? :p

Glad you didn't fry your rig though, and yes, the quads run hot...

You would have to shut down several boxes for a long time for me to catch up.

Congrats on making your rig [H]arder!

Took me a while, but I found you.
Get that quad folding again, I'll wait for ya. ;)

Haha, rule number 1 of watercooling, water is BAD outside the tubing, don't turn on your pc EVER without cleaning up your leak and letting it thoroughly dry first.

Did you get enough out of your koolance case to go to a new watercooling setup or are you going back to air?

/looks at the Xeon 3060 and second Q6600 sitting unused in the corner...
I guess I'll be busy this afternoon. :D

I am going back to air. I purchased the LIAN LI PC-A70B.

I posted a question in the Multi-processor section, but it seems that area is not very active.

I've always worried about leaving a system on 24/7 with liquid running around with out me there to watch it.

I'd email Lian-Li, I know one guy is having problems getting his heatsinks to mount in his V2000 with a SSI EEB board in the case section.

ummm, is it my imagination or Evil's ppd is still climbing.
ahhh, I get it. Throw us off our game, get us relaxed, nothing to see here....
Then comes the buzz saw by the name of " EvilAlchemist"...
Wave bye.

My PPD is actually staying about the same for the last week and a 1/2.

Last week, I got my 2nd quad online and upgraded my HTPC to smp.

It took this long to get the 24 hour average to settle down.

Same here, running water 24/7 for around 7 years now. Nothing has gone wrong yet...

I'm actually thinking about going all air cooled. My old Koolance just isn't doing the job anymore. I think the Thermalright Ultima90 with 120mm fan cools better. I also have a Tuniq Tower on the way so I'm going to see how it does. I may end up retiring the EXOS or selling it to someone. The friend I sold my E6400 to would buy it in a heartbeat if he has the money.

Heya Catboxer, I thought you might be down a box or 2.....
You pulled ahead of me but seem to be slowing down a bit.
Allowing me to catch up, although hard to tell with the stats all wonky :)

With aircoolers like the TRUE 120, Ultima 90 and Tuniq out there, I find it hard to justify the cost of WC. That doesn't mean I want one any less than before though :D

Edit: Hard does not equal Impossible

Yeah, you just showed up on my Threat list. I think even without your quad core, you're still gonna stomp on me......if it hasn't already happened.

I've got a couple of weeks before I catch up :D Unless I lose some of my FBNFs.

Yeah I've had people pushing through After Effects videos for the past week. One job is taking up to 104 hours for 10 frames. For some reason After Effects will not engage more than 1 more, even though mutiprocessing is checked in render options. So I'm pretty much down a core a box. Pretty soon classes will be submitting Maya jobs and that will totally kill off the PDD as it does use all 4 cores.

I can see people staying out of WCing due to the buy in costs, but I paid those years ago. I have a 120mmx2 Radiator and a Eheim pond pump that will probably run forever. When I went from a X2 to a Q6600, I didnt have to upgrade a thing as the Swiftech block I was using had multiple mounting points.

Re: Watercooling...

I'm currently looking for a way to adequately cool my Q6600 in a Microfly... Aircooling isn't possible due to space limitations, but liquid seems doable. It would appear my previous statement needs revision.

You should just purchase some non-conductive fluid and use that.

Or you could plug that leak with some Mighty Putty :D

Then no worries :D

It's possible if you mount the rad outside the case, maybe where the 80mm fan exits air out of the system, and drill some holes for the tubing to go in/out of the case.

Yeah, that is pretty much what I was thinking of. A 120mm rad sitting aft of the rear 120mm fan with some holes for tubing. Space is tight in those things, so the pump would have to be pretty small.

/Sorry for the thread hijack Evil!

yeah the 120 version should be decent, but the 220 version would be much more capable if you can fit it on the case without it looking completely ridiculous. Course if you don't mind the look, you might as well set a triple rad next to your case :D

After looking at the microfly, it looks like you could mount the 220 rad sideways off the back. It wouldn't be very pretty, but it could be done fairly easily.

You would have to measure to make sure the rad doesn't block the power supply power cord plus you may have to divert the air coming out of the power supply...don't want to have hot air blowing through the rad

An H20-220 Compact with it's double rad mounted along the top or side panel would be the "coolest" way to do this, but is beyond my current physical and financial guidelines. A big ass double rad bolted to the top of the case just isn't practical for routine transport.

However, an H20-120 Compact, with the rad situated directly behind the 120mm fan mount may work. Sure, the air going over it won't be the coolest, but maybe it won't be a big deal.

Newegg and Sidewinder have the 120-Compact on sale right now for $119. I'm going to check the FS forums too. This may be the way to go :)

Thanks for the awesome suggestions guys.

Using the rad box helps you in this area. It would be a tight fit if you had the fan on the side closest to the case, but with the fans pulling air thru the rad you'd have plenty of room for the power cable. I don't think a reasonable powersupply will put out enough hot air to negate the advantages of the double rad over the single.
