Hey I just called EVGA and they say that if you order from their website, that it was deff ship on the second no problem. So far they have had excellenct service and i am impressed. Do you think it is worth it to buy a BFG just for the warranty?

This has been debated ad nauseum. My feeling is, if a piece of hardware is going to fail, it will likely happen upon or soon after install. Combine that with the realistic lifespawn of how long you'll have a video card in your system, I don't think that a life time warranty is a big deal. I have an evga 6800GT and appreciated the upgrade path they have. I'm much more likely to use that. Plus you get a copy of Far Cry to sell or give away. Physically, they're all pretty much the same.

Who needs a life time warranty.. Ooo yeah, my SIS 2MB video card died, i should get it repaired.. Come on, video cards become obsolete within 2-4 years..

Order a eVGA!! Mine is on order actually

You mean is it worth it to buy a BFG for 450 or 500 now for the warrenty? I dont think so.

Is it worth it to wait a couple weeks and get a bfg for 400 and get the warrenty? Maybe if you can stand being with out doom 3.

Reading your post im tempted to put a pre order in at evga. I want a 6800 gt but not for more than 400.

The same goes for me with eVGA the 'e' makes me think of eMachines. Which isnt a good feeling. But if i can actually get a card some time next week for 400 i dont really care.

For $2000 definitely go socket 939 with a 3500+. You should still have some left over for a decent monitor too.

http://secure.newegg.com/app/shoppingcart.asp?DEPA=0&submit=ADD&item=19-103-463

this is what i have picked out so far..not including the Vid obviously....

thx for the backing on the 3500 lol, its not like I WANT to spend all of it no matter what...if its obsurd to spend 2000 i wont lol

I've said it before and I'll say it again....BFG and eVGA are exactly the same video card.

BFG- has the BFG sticker on hsf and overclocked 20mhz before shipping. Lifetime warranty

eVGA- has Nalu sticker on hsf, 1 year warranty and eligible for the "Step Up program" which allows you to trade in your card for the next highest model and only pay the difference. (within 90 days) Also...includes far Cry.

Just go with whichever company meets your needs but don't worry about one card being better than the other..

most of the parts are coming from newegg..should i buy the vid card now and the rest of the parts on the 28th...or what lol

The eVGA through eVGA's official site is a great deal. They're right at MSRP (unline everyine else selling GTs and they ship out quickly if my experience is any indication (once they're in stock of course). Now with the rest of your system I can't help you.

I know keep posting about this but is the Ground shipping fast enough and is their a coupon for this?

Get non-ECC. ECC is error correcting memorry and is typically used on critical systems, such as a server. I'd suggest the 3200XLPRO if you can afford it. I see that 2x512 is going for 338 at newegg. You might be able to find it cheaper elsewhere. That memory is pimp, no doubt.

For a DVD writer, I like the Plextor 708-A. Works great for me. Team that up with DVD Shrink, and Nero 6.0 and you're golden.. :)

EVGA 6800GT - no brainer. Great pick.

If you're looking at a new PS, you might consider going higher then 430. If anything, more and more power will be needed in the future and it doesn't make sense to buy a 430 and have to upgrade it again in a year.

Just my .02

I think one good reason for getting a lifetime warranty is if you plan to sell the card later on. Because the buyer will ask and learn you overclocked it its whole life, and then if the warranty was near over, the buyer might decline since who knows if the card's life was shortened. But if it has the lifetime warranty, the buyer will feel more comfortable and most likely overclock the card himself too.

So, basically a lifetime warranty helps the resale value of the card when you upgrade in 2 years or earlier. Plus gives you a little more peace of mind if you want to overclock.
