Ouch, stock cooler! Should be worth 5K ish PPD stock on SMP!
 
believe it or not, that's running a 3.24ghz OC on that stock cooler. currently worth 8K PPD :D
 
okay i got paid today! i need to buy something better than that cardboard box! suggestions for cheap ass case or open mobo tray? :)
 
I vote keep the cardboard box...

You can actually a case cheaper than a motherboard tray these days. Look for lots of intake and exhaust. This and this look like pretty good options at first glance.
 
That cardboard rig looks like a Kendrak Special circa 2008.
 
Wow! I severely underestimated the noise of these Scythe Slipstreams, haha. But man they push some air. The Xig Dark Knight cooler is working wonders though. My folding temp went from 72C to 40C from stock intel cooler! After a few days of burn in, im going to OC this processor to within .0001v's of being unstable!
 
almost 2 hours later and my temps have dropped to 39C while folding away. Amazing cooler! I'll take a pic or two sometime this week.
 
Yeah the ole core 2 quads are still solid folders and cpu's in general IMO. Mine is 1 gen newer but running at 3.5 i've not felt the necessity to upgrade until recently. But it still folds and runs BF3 just fine so its sticking around a while longer. Nice job giving it a real home and cooler!
