It looks as though the EU, citing competitive concerns, has rejected the Google – DoubleClick deal and has ordered an in-depth review into the acquisition.

Leave it to the European Commission to ruin a good party. On Tuesday, the antitrust arm of the European Commission nixed approval on Google's acquisition of DoubleClick, citing competitive concerns. The EU also ordered an in-depth review into the acquisition.

cue `how dare the EU tell a US based global company what to do' comments...

El Reg as a little less slanted coverage:

The European Commission originally promised a ruling on Google's proposed $3.1bn purchase on October 26. Then it delayed things a bit, promising a decision would arrive today. And today, as reported by The Wall Street Journal, it said we'll have to wait until April 2.

I think it's noteworthy to mention that there's nothing final yet, but the investigation continues.

They will take till april 2nd because they will need that long to figure out how much they will need to fine Google for so that their economy can stay intact for a little longer.

who the hell are they to tell an american based company how to do business. GMAFB

Maybe people over there should start working more than 30hrs a week and they wouldn't have to fine US companies to support themselves.

haha, I honestly wouldn't mind an extended lunch break + time for a nap & a shag :D

Oh my, the EU is having issues with a US company yet again. But never fear, they will remedy this grave affront to competitiveness in the only way they see fit - Extortion.

*wipes tears from eye*

The EU makes me so proud. They're following our footsteps to a T. If you cannot compete, sue. How fast they all grow up!

I think they are upset because the US won't give them a $100 billion for lost income due to us not allowing online gambling.

All the U.S. needs to do is demand that they pay off, in full with interest, all the money that we loaned them after WWII and give them 30 days to do it.

Then we can use that money to pay for 1/4 of a day of this war. Maybe we can get 1/3 of a day if we really really try hard.

Bah, fiscal responsibility is overrated. $9,000,000,000,000 in debt looks pretty macho don't it?
