EU To Vote On Proposal That Could Ban All Online Pornography

An anonymous reader writes
"The European Union is voting on a proposal next week that could lead to a blanket ban on porn in member states, and it seems the measure may well be approved. The proposal, called 'Eliminating gender stereotypes in the EU,' mentions issues such as women carrying a 'disproportionate share of the burden' when raising a family, violence against women as 'an infringement of human rights,' and gender stereotypes that develop early in life. From the proposal: "Calls on the EU and its Member States to take concrete action on its resolution of 16 September 1997 on discrimination against women in advertising, which called for a ban on all forms of pornography in the media and on the advertising of sex tourism."

Update: 03/07 19:05 GMT by T : Pirate MEP Christian Engström writes on his blog that citizens writing to the European Parliament about the proposal are not necessarily being heard: "Before noon, some 350 emails [on this topic] had arrived in my office. But around noon, these mails suddenly stopped arriving. When we started investigating why this happened so suddenly, we soon found out: The IT department of the European Parliament is blocking the delivery of the emails on this issue, after some members of the parliament complained about getting emails from citizens."

hahahaha

Oh wow ban pornography, good luck EU
Like a law like that would have a big chance in the EU, and how ever you look at it, it would actually be pretty good if we could protect children from watching porn.

I was like around 14~15 when i got my first porn magazine, my kids got confronted whit porn when they ware around 10 years old, and i had to be mouth more creative to explain things about sex then my parents, and about whats (mentally) healthy and whats not, and that porn has noting to do with love.

I had to explain to my son and daughters that having sex like porn stars do is not something that they have to do, and things like anal and oral sex is not something that they needed to do on there first time or even years.

Having your kids confronted all the time with porn, makes it also hard to find the right age to explain things, because even do they are confronted with it, they are to young to understand, also i had to put a lot of the burden the oldest, as kids understand kids better, and i could not use my own experiences as a guide line.

I am now a grandfather and had a talk with my oldest, and she told me i had done pretty well, explaining about the flowers and the bee's, compared to a lot of other parents, as we talked she understood pretty well why so many parents had problems explaining the differences between love, sex and porn.

Porn is also the main reason kids now a days have about 2.5 years earlier sex the first time, then when pre internet kids had there first time.

And imho that is not a good thing, imo having sex for the first time is about doing it with some one you love, not about something that is expected because of all the porn on the net.

Feeling the need to protect our children from to early being confronted by porn, is something i share, tho i think a ban on online porn is not a real solution, as it properly will not work a 100%.

And about being prude about sex and nudity we cant even hold a candle to the US, as almost all beaches in the EU are topless, and the PG ratings for movies with sex and nudity are lower then in the US.

So yeah in the EU there are also people that wane protect there kids, are they doing it the right way, properly not, but i understand there need for it, and i also think that in the US this bill would get more votes then in the EU.

Having a bill put up for vote dose not mean it will pass, it can also mean that politicians can say, look i tried, but no cigar .
