I have a Supermicro X10SL7-F motherboard and this has an onboard LSI2308 controller with 8 SAS ports.
I am wanting to install ESXi on this machine so that I can learn ESXi 5.5.
What I am unsure of is, do I need a separate hardware RAID card or can I use the onboard LSI2308?
In other words, if I create a mirrored volume using drives connected to the LSI2308 SAS ports, will ESXi see the individual drives? Or will it see a single volume?
I don't want to purchase a hardware RAID card if theres no need to...
Thanks!
