Is there any way I can plug an internal hard drive into my esata port on my laptop? I would like to copy all of my files from my desktop to my laptop before I reinstall windows. Normally, I would use this:

http://www.amazon.com/JMTek-CROSSBOX-2nd-Generation-Hi-Speed/dp/B0001YW1LQ

but since windows wont start on my desktop, I would be unable to start the exe on it.

You sure can. Note that you'll also need to find a way to get power to the drive.

yup. get a standalone molex power supply (or steal a molex from a nearby running desktop) and everything will be golden.
SATA <--> eSATA cables do exist, i've got a couple. It's what I used when I did the SSD upgrade on the laptop.

Yes either get the correct power supply and an eSATA to SATA cable, or spend $20-30 on an external drive enclosure which has eSATA output (or USB/FW output but eSATA will be more efficient).

point, there. Forgot about the whole cost thing. I already had a molex supply made from a dead enclosure's brick (was fortunate, it delivered +12 and +5 separately), a molex from a splitter and some soldering work. (aka: "free", just add labor)
