I am baffled, and am tired of reinstalling XP. A quick fix is what I am looking for but jeez I am at a loss here.

System:
Coppermine 733@852
Asus CUSL2
Radeon 9600XT
256MB Crucial
WD 5400rpm 20GB
WinXP Pro

Up until the other day everything was running smooth as silk. It freezes solid (running messenger and IE, only). Now it will not boot into windows. Everything posts and loads as usual, but everytime right before XP launches the desktop, I get a flash of BSOD, then auto-reboot....ad-infinum.

Tried:
Safe mode - nothing diferent
Revert to previous working config - nothing different
Load BIOS defualts, including FSB/latencies - same shit

All my hardware is gtg, and rechecked for obvious problems.

Thoughts:
Powersupply maybe? I have a 300W Deer (yes I know Deer blows heavy ass but it's worked awesome for 4 years of abuse). HD f-ed?

Dunno, thought you guys might have some thoughts/suggestions (~ Upgrade already! Dumbass!).

I agree, memory problems would be my first guess. Try downloading memtest68 and letting it run through a few cycles.
 
My first inkling would also be memory problems. Get memtest86 and test the memory for problems.

If possible, try to disable automatic Restarts in Windows so you can see the BSOD messages (doesn't sound very possible since your machine reboots before it fully logs you in).
 
Can I run it thrugh a prompt without Windows loaded? I don't have another system that I can toss my pc133 into.
 
Memtest86 boots off a floppy or cd-rom and does not boot to Windows to run.
 
The first thing you need to do is drop everything back down to stock. That includes the overclock, voltages and timings.

Next I would make sure the heatsink isn't gunked up or something. Otherwise, just do what the others have suggested.
 
Ahh, you are another victim, as I was, of the infinite reboot cycle.

If I understand you problem correctly, theoretically, you could leave your computer alone and it would reboot over and over, right?

Is so, the same shit happened to me, it was frustrating as all fuck, I swear.

Initially, my problem started when I was fuckin around with partition magic rearranging partitions... bah, long story short:

Ended up, the boot sector was all fucked up, so as soon as it was just starting to load XP, bam, flash the bsod and reboot. Tried safe mode, tried recovery console, tried reinstalling, tried repair install, same shit.

Here's the solution. You'll need a totally clean wipe and install with a twist. Boot to the XP cd. Don't do any repair installs, just let it get to the "select partition" screen or whatever. Don't select any partition, I don't remember the key but look at the bottom of the screen and you'll see an option to delete a partition and create a partition. You'll have to delete all the partitions and create a new one. Then go to the next screen and format the drive (NTFS, full, none of the quick crap, it never seems to be as good).

That worked like a charm. I, luckily, didn't have anything that needed to be saved. If you do, I don't know what the solution is because I really didn't try to backup.

You can type in "infinite boot in xp" or something along those lines in google and read all the horror stories. I'm not saying you have a boot sector prob like I did, there are lots of other issues that would cause this to happen. To be honest, I don't think quite think you are being totally forthcoming, not that I care. You couldn't have possibly been just sitting there doing nothing. You must have changed drivers, new hardware, something. Anyway, try that solution.

Backup is not a problem, got everything important on an extra HD.

Completely wiped and installed XP a few months ago, was just wondering if I could avoid reinstalling everything again.

Really when I think about it nothing weird changed before the initial freeze. In fact unusually for me, it was a completely unaltered/non-msconfig'ed install of WIN this time.

Will try a memtest as soon as I get some bootable media.
 
definitely look into memtest than reinstall windows and well i had to do that not too long ago and found it not being that bad... Okay it was but i was tryin to lessen teh blow...
 
Update: I thought I would do an easy over-install of Win. It says my HD was too full, damaged, corrupted, etc. My hard drive has never been treated well (For instance it is sitting front down, unscrewed, on the bottom of my open case with the cabling holding it upright (as per 60 percent of it's life). I'm getting a little of the old "WD click", which ended up needing an RMA last time... I think my 3 years are well up tho :). We will see how the reformat/install goes. I don't think I will OC this time, in fact... I may just go find somem screws right now :D
