Engine coolant and ratios?

Im getting my first water cooling kit soon and need advice about the coolant, i have some car engine anti-freeze/coolant from halfords lying around and i would like to know if this will work as coolant for a PC?
also if it can, should i dilute it as recomended on the bottle (about 1:2 coolant to water) or about 1:20 as recomended here?
 
I think Distilled Water + Swiftech's coolant is the cheapest and best way to go.
 
why bother with the antifreeze at all if you have to throw in some anti-algae chemical? isn't that the whole point of the antifreeze?
 
The Halfords stuff is the coolant I use. The only thing I add to it is UV blue additive to make it glow.

In the months I had it running (in a mixed metal loop) there wasn't any build-up or crap in the loops.

Not really. Anti-freeze usually has corrosion inhibitors and surfactants, but at the temps an engine sees fungal growth isn't a concern so algicide isn't a component. However, you make a good point. Distilled water is the best practical coolant you can use.

yes, imo, nothing practical cools as well as water and good WC pumps are designed to be lubricated by the water they pump. But clean out everything first, the rad in particular.

Distilled water with some rubbing alcohol added is a good final wash and tjem rinse very well with lots of distilled water , let dry very well so all alcohol will evaporate, set tubing in sunny window etc.

Be sure to assemble and leak test before running in a "live" system.
 
why dont you spend $10 on coolant for your pc.. and save your cars coolant for when you overheat =/
