Since I know everyone agrees this should be a solid supply, let's get into some other stuff. How quiet is it? (I have the 620W coming). How heavy is it? Here's what it SHOULD be running soon

DFI NF4 SLi-DR
Opty (haven't decided which one)
dual eVGA 7800 GT's
2 h2o loops
1 NEC 3520
1 or 2 HDD's

I went WAY overkill on the PSU, but I got a great deal (the OCZ in my sig will be going to "server" duty in a second machine) at $148.

Very quiet. Seriously. I can't believe how quiet it is considering it can do 620W and has active PFC, only has the one fan and STILL stays cool.

Down right scary.

Good. Oh, and I guess I decided on an Opty 144. Should ship from the Egg tonight. If it'll clock higher than this Clawhammer I have now, it'll be a nice chip.

I got my Liberty 620w a few days ago.. it is a solid power supply and has a very nice finish. I peeled my stickers off since whoever put them on was probably drunk cause it was bubbled. One thing I didn't like about it though was the connectors. They have a "quick" release connector. Normally that's a good thing.. except on my x800xt.. ATI decided to flip the molex connector.. now I can't plug it in because the quick release is facing towards the card and it wouldn't fit. I could have cut it though.. but didn't want to hack into a brand new ps. I just used a molex extender on it that I had in my toolbox. otherwise... I really like it.. and it is very quiet and runs pretty damn cool.

magnetik,

I just got my Liberty today and so far so good. I just had one beef. When you hit hte power button on your computer does your Liberty make a small noise? Mine sounds like electrical noise or some kind of coil vibrating. It makes the noise for a second and never happens again.

yeah... I have experience first hand on this issue.. I bought a noisetaker 600w a month or two ago.. and it also had this noise.. kinda freaked me out.. but my new one has the sound too.. It may be the bearings as the fans turn the first time.. So it may be the norm for these newer enermax's. Not a big deal though.. only time you hear it is on startup.

whew I thought my Liberty was going the way of the lemon. I feel comfortable replacing the fan more than the whole unit itself.

I feel better now that I got this PSU over the Antec TP2-550 and the Antec NeoHE 430W

They all do this. It's the windings of the main transformer vibrating.

Some power supplies do this. Some only do it during high loads. They'll emit a whine from the transformer.

It's not unsafe. In fact, some companies actually "tune" the whine noise so it's still there... but not audible.

im experiencing the same noise. So this is normal and no cause for concern? I ask this because i just assembled my new rig and dont want to see it die. If it is due to the fans, can it be replaced and if so which fan would be acceptable?

I wondered about the same noise on my 620 watt Liberty too. It sure is a great powersupply and a whole lot quieter than my PC Power & Cooling!

Holy old thread bump Batman!!!

As stated... the noise is NORMAL. We ALL experience it.

I was mistaken in thinking it was the main transformer charging up. I made this assumption because my variac makes the same noise when it's hit with 110 (just a big ol' transformer) but I understand that the noise is actually a coil or transformer on the PFC circuitry. Either way, there is no "problem." It's just the way their power supplies work.

Thats odd ...

I have 2 Enermax Liberty 620W PSUs.
No sound at start up and they run silently.

Happy trailz,

Not start up of the computer. When you have one that's cold. w/o power going to it (unplugged or on/off switch on back is in off position) and then you flip it on, the PSU should make an arc noise.
