How does one enable NQC or AHCI after setting up Vista 64?

When I enable it on my GA-P35-DS3R windows does not load, I can only assume that some drivers are absent.

Also, would I be better off using the Gigabyte Sata ports (the purple ones) for booting?

The Drive in question is the WD5000AAKS
 
first off, its NCQ
second, you would need to enable AHCI in bios before installing windows or you will get BSOD. While installing windows, vista gives you an option to load other drivers (which can also be done thru a usb stick, which makes it a lot easier).

I know in XP there's a workaround if you've already installed the OS, dunno about vista, do a google search.

Don't bother with it. The only advantage of AHCI for desktop systems is the hotswap. The rest of the stuff actually slows/or has very little effect on performance.
