Any problems in terms of heat, etc if I were to have this 2.66ghz eMachines fold? I'm worried that stock cooling isnt enough.

well it cant be worse than dell desktop cooling (at least i hope not) and i have a few dells with some of the worst cooling solutions ive ever seen folding 24/7 for a while now. the only way i could tell you for sure would be if you took a pic of the cooling or something... hard to tell just from the company name (unless its dell of course :p )

You'll have a good idea after running it. It definately stresses the system, but a stock computer should run it without problems, or it should have never been made.

1) start folding.
2) wait ~30 minutes
3) feel air coming out of the back

if the air feels ok (not really really hot or anything) than the cooling can handle it. as long as it doesn't make more noise when running folding (i.e. variable speed fan) there shouldn't be any issues.

Mom's Dell and Girlfrind's Emachine are folding well, heat isnt an issue .

I've had a few dells with 2 of those nasty clamshell cases. The clamshell case is garbage... just garbage. I have two Dell cases here still... one is an actual Dell with a Thermalengine on the 1.0 p3. The other is a Dimension XPS case that is modified to run my XP-M rig.

*IF* If your warranty is done, you can take off the "hood" on the HSF. You'll need to keep that fan attached so the board thinks it cooling the CPU. I ended up taking the HSF off the cpu, cleaned off that crap they call thermal paste, lapped it and applied AS5. I then attached a simple 80mm to the Dell HSF. That is an instant improvement. Hell, this worked using a Prescott 2.8

not too bad my folding machine runs at 64c all day long.

(Just started folding an hour ago...)

I think, as a general rule of thumb, 85c is the upper (safe) limit for modern CPUs. The P4 thermal circuit cuts in at 125c, according to Intel datasheets. Your CPU is doing fine at 57c. Keep folding!

57C is not bad at all for prebuilt machine like that. My Gateway PIII 700 at work usually runs around 57-59C and it has no trouble with F@H.

a dell clamshell 2.4 or two and a couple emachines of various flavors.. all runing 24/7 in the heat (desert) zero issues.

32c 29c 33c and 31c here , its cold in cali tonight and I have all the windows open!
