Oh c'mon guys, don't act like you don't know about being rejected by sockets because your plug is inactive. Oops, that's "ejected" not "rejected," my bad.

Will this win the most stupid idea of the day award?
Stupid idea..
Nothing more irritating then to need to turn something on and find the plug has come undone. ... Way to over complicate something unnecessarily.
could just use a internal relay, said device isnt drawing X amps, the relay opens and the "phantom draw" is ended, when you go to turn it on, the relay energizes and your TV is powered up.
I understand it's a design contest, but I don't understand how such a flawed design can possibly win...
We already have power strips with the working version of this technology. Under a certain power draw, the outlet gets shut off. Simple, effective, unobtrusive, and most importantly - don't hamper convenience.

lol this makes me realize, you can invent anything, even if it's a completely silly idea, but it will probably get enough coverage so you can make a couple mil and walk away. As long as it has nothing to do with alternative energy, otherwise the government and oil industry will just gulp it up and it will never be heard of again.
I think I will make a toaster that automatically brings the toasts back in for a quick toasting if they have been left idle for more than 5 minutes. That way if you forget about the toasts at least they'll be kept warm.
Next up: Devices that draw just enough power when not in use to not trigger the device
Holy Republican Batman!+1
If they ever start putting plugs in like this in houses, the free market will come up with a solution to get around them. I can already imaging the Democrats out here in California voting for this as another great "green" solution
Reminds me of the genius at Sony in the 80's who made a CD player with a remote control that had an EJECT button, but no corresponding CLOSE button. Great! Now I have to get up off the couch to close the damned tray. This is even worse...
You eject the disc so it will be opened by the time you get to it and remove the cd and replace it with another one.
btw, a lot of players will close the tray when you press the play button on the remote.

I think this particular application kinda sucks..
But.. I think it would be useful to have a version that is like a GFC plug for use in wet-spaces. Not only trip a breaker but eject the plug also, in the event of a trip or short.
