Anyone know if CRC Electrical Grade QD Contact Cleaner is safe to use on PC parts? My goal is to clean up a dirty motherboard. I think the prior owner smoked and never cleaned the dust from his box.

if your talking about this link it will work fine, I've used brake-clean & an air compressor to clean mb's &
gf cards, but it does haze the surface

Yes Dave, that the stuff. Will the CRC haze the surface or you talking about brake cleaner only?

just use a static-guard air compressor /Vac or some alcohol..
a soft long brush and a stiff short one..
and a bunch of Qtips..
take your time...

brake cleaner has a tendency to eat stuff..
the electronic cleaner spray also has a tendency to damage sensitive components.
and they remove the information on capacitors..
(need for when they pop and need replaced, motherboards don't die in my house.. )

soap & water on electronics ? make sure to dry really well !
haven't used the CRC in a long time, I work for the "O" and get bc cheap I use it to clean lots of projects, yes the bc will remove paint, decals, ink, and can mar some soft plastics,
stay with the CRC and lots of high pressure air

Do not use brake or carb cleaner as they will typically melt plastic and rubber. CRC electronics and MAF cleaners should be safer and I have used them around plastics with some success before. I wouldn't use soap and water, though if you're good about removing it all, it's safe. Problem with water-based solutions is if any water remains, it will corrode stuff very easily.

Soak/submerge the board in 99% isopropyl alcohol, gently scrub away debris if required, then let it air dry before you plug it in.

Personally I prefer an Anti-static Blower or Vacuum.

x2 for isopropyl alcohol ... use a soft toothbrush to start and use q-tips for the tight / tough areas.

Thanks guys, but the CRC works great. Did not harm anything and left no haze.
