how does everyone feel about the EK 680i waterblock and their 775 cpu block? im really looking to minimize the number of manufacturers that go into my loop, any suggestions?

CPU block is not ideal for performance...but it is sexy :)

(limit manufacturers? that's a new one..)

EK CPU blocks aren't up to snuff. Like I've posted on other threads, nothing touches the D-Tek FuZion or the Apogee GT/GTX at the moment when it comes to performance.

EK's 680i blocks are great stuff. After a trial run with my friend's build using their blocks, I've ordered 3 complete sets for my comps: EK Evga 680i and EK NF4 1.1 blocks. They look good and beat out the industry's standard, the Swiftech MCW30. However, they come at a huge price and probably won't be compatible with future boards (except for the NF4 1.1 block which is almost like a universal block).

I know... sounds like something TN would say ;)

I went with EK for my Gfx blocks, NB and SB blocks, and 2 resevoirs

D-Tek FuZion for my CPU and 2 Thermochill rads.

Of course you can just shop at petras or performance-pcs or jabtech and get it all from one place if you have to mix manufacturers.

You will really like the blocks! Just be careful on how much you tighten the Gfx block and it can cause problems.

Thanks for the heads up. I'm not trying to break any records, so I'll be happy if they are just secure.

I have three EK blocks ...

The EVGA 680 NB block, the NF4 rev 1.1 for the SB, and the 8800GTX block ... Eddy is such a nice guy, he sent both 680i blocks before he even got my payment. Besides, both 680i block are acetyl and black finish, they are SEXY !!!

I got the Dtek for the CPU though, its also very nice looking and will give you better performance according to many. I only ever tested this one though, but my watercooling master Arcy says Dtek have the flattest bases, and he's sort of very difficult for that kind of thing, so ... to each his own !

Flatness of the base isn't as important as it used to be. These days most people are modding their CPU blocks by bowing them so that there's more contact where the cores are. There's a few people I know that have bowed their FuZion and their GTX.

How about the 8800 GTX blocks? I like the see thru design but is there an issue like other acrylic tops with degrading? Should I just get the acetal top and save myself any future trouble?

Depends. If you're experienced enough to know how much to tighten your barbs so that there won't be any leaks without over tightening, you can get away with using Acrylic tops. However, if you're going through constant rebuilds, or are unsure of how much torque can be applied to your barbs, get some piece of mind and get the delrin tops.

Ive heard people with acrylic tops had some cracking problems on em. Probably from misuse but on the other hand, acrylic are really prone to cracks be it misuse or some random thing. Ive got an order for the EK with acrylic since PTS has not received their stock for the delrin. So hopefully it won’t crack on me till i get the delrin replacement top.

Don't run alcohol-based additives and don't overtighten your fittings, and you're fine.

Maybe.
