Don't know where to place this but eBay just gave me a "refund coupon" for $283 from a broken 5850 that I received, I paid with my checking account and now I get a fucking coupon? Has anyone gotten this before? I'm really pissed and I'll be calling tommorow morning. I can't believe eBay is fucking me over so good with this. I need my real money back not coupon money.

Not good, that's a lot of nerve if you ask me. Now that's another potential pitfall that the rest of us have to consider, especially on high ticket items. I know i'd complain about it.

That money is supposed to be between you and the seller, who is Ebay to lay their grubby hands on it?

Looks like i'll have to look into it as well since i do a lot of purchasing there.

Good luck, and let us know how it works out for you.

They cannot give you a coupon if you paid real cash for an item on eBay. You need to call them about this and demand your real money back.

ebay can give you a coupon if they want, it is known in brick and mortar stores as store credit, that is what ebay is giving you, has anyone ever contested getting store credit for returning a shirt that is too small?

This probably happened because ebay went and resolved this issue? i'm guessing that talks between you and the seller went south, b/c only the seller is the only person authorized to issue a credit back with paypal, not ebay, which is a third party.

in short hey you get your "money" back a lot of people don't actually get stuff resolved through ebay.

hmmm ebay gives me a full refund through paypal when item doesn't ship or broken.

Ebay is not a store. They do not sell items. They sell a service that helps sellers find buyers to sell their items to (and buyers to find people selling what they want). Ebay does not have any ground to stand on here and I am done with them if this is a new policy.

But if you don't use paypal, and you use a check instead, they can't send you your check back if the seller is being a douche. And they can't give you your money through paypal if you didn't use paypal. What's the big deal anyway, just buy another video card with the coupon like you would probably would have done with the cash anyway.

Maybe he has a bad taste in his mouth from being screwed on the card, and he doesn't want to use eBay for the purchase now. I don't think eBay can do this legally since they were not the seller on the item. They need to rectify this situation or I will never use them or payPal again. This is becoming ridiculous that eBay and PayPal can get away with stuff like this and not get sued over it.

The check was paid through PayPal, it was a transfer on a checking account. I did use PayPal...

I did buy another video card on eBay a MONTH ago, it took them one month to close the case as the seller was being a douche and didn't want to return the money, I tried my best to talk to him, but he didn't budge either.

Now I talked to ebay on the phone for 4 hours today, got transfered like 4 times to the highest departments and I have to say the lower department representative are way more caring than the huge ++++s "senior support case specialist " or whatever they want to fucking call themselves, all they did was repeat the same sentence over and over again, "Sorry its inversible." I told them I couldn't feed myself, pay my rent, pay my school with coupons, and all they did was stay quiet. I know its not their job to care, but dam I would of been happier of them sent me an e-mail saying fuck off then dealing with them.

I can't beleive this, first as a seller I was screwed with the hold holding money for 21 days if you didn't meet the requirement, now as a seller I can't even get my own money back.

What I ended doing was with my other ebay account, yea I have two. I listed an item for the exact amount as the coupon on my brothers account, bought it using the account with the coupon and transfering the money from the transaction, but I had to eat the Paypal fees which came out to $8, I put a BIN for 1.00 and shipping for 283 to get rid of the ebay fees. So I lost $10 due to this whole shit, and I had to end up paying ebay money to get my money since paypal is owned by them...

I'm transfering all my funds to my bank account now, and they can forgot about the $75 in fees, I can't deal with scums like this.

Ebay & Paypal are completely corrupt. They don't care about you simply because they lack legitimate competition. When someone pops up to compete (Craigslist), they try to stifle them or buy them. I stopped liking EBay when they went the route of blocking Google Checkout and Revolution Money Exchange. If you list those in your description ("will accept") your item automatically gets rejected. How anti-competitive can you be?

The only one in a position to really compete with Ebay is Amazon, but they don't offer auctions and their fixed-price listings get little notice plus have large seller fees (fixed shipping costs).

Just as an FYI (not sure if this would have worked with your coupon), you can select "Gift" instead of services/product on PayPal to avoid fees. Did the coupon code show up in YOUR PayPal account (as money sent) when you did the BiN on your "brothers" auction? You maybe able to do a refund and see if it sends cash back to your PayPal.

Pull up a list for "PayPal alternatives" for Ebay and you'll see that Ebay has banned any and all that could legitimately compete with PayPal. The alternative is either A) located in the UK (a detraction to buyers), B) have enormous seller fees, or C) have hard to create accounts for buyers. I'm sure there is an argument for an anti-trust lawsuit against them with the competition stifling/buying and guidelines.

ive been screwed by Ebay alot in the past. Now i just use it to dump old electronics that i would die if I got screwed for like 20$.

Ebay sucks...

If you had paid with a credit card thru paypal, and you received a bad item, paypal would have issued a charge back to the credit card. paying with a checking account draft does not offer you this protection. if any one of the above posters had ever read the terms of service, this would not be a surprise.

by using a check(ing account) thru paypal, you make it harder for paypal to recover funds if something goes wrong. to compensate for this burden, they issue store credit instead of cash. somewhat of an inconvenience to you, yes, but a reasonable thing for them to do since they are now paying out of their own pocket. no company would last long if they paid everyone that asked easily and without question.

that being said- everyone in this thread that bashes on ebay/paypal and continues to use their services are hypocrites. if you dont like em, dont use em. i agree that ebay sucks, which is why i closed all my accounts 2 years ago. its like all those people who rant and rave about walmart being an evil conglomerate while walking into the store.

if you dont like a company, dont give them your dollar. plain and simple.

I could only of used the coupon through ebays checkout thing, It didn't allow me to use it if used the send money option in paypal. It showed as money sent in my paypal account. I was thinking of doing the refund, but I was worried it wouldn't work and I would of been stuck with it crediting my ebay account again. I decided to eat the net fees from paypal and sent the rest of the moeny as a gift to my primary paypal account.

Thing is I had no trouble with getting refunds to my checking account in the past, I actually have recieved refunds back directly into my checking account. This might be a new policy or something...

Same goes for personal checks or money orders, too.

If you state that you will accept ANY payment method other than PayPal, they will delete your listing.

They claim it's to better protect both parties (seller and buyer), but we all know it's just about collecting the fees.

Wrong. Ebay/Paypal charge ridiculous fees to sell. Those fees are supposed to cover claims. Otherwise, why would they even charge a percentage? Just because they can? Oh, wait, a monopoly can do that. Regardless, Ebay just charged me $40 FVF for a receiver that sold for a little above $400. I am done selling on Ebay for the most part anyway.

Ebay and paypal takes about $50 from me every month but the amount of traffic you get and the items do sell. It's not great but it's better than nothing.

Recently ebay raised fees for selling to another 2-3% which sucks.

what's the big deal, use it to buy another video card. other than the principal I hear ya on that. but, if you really needed your cash what were you doin spending it in the first place.

Is this why when you use a credit card through paypal that it encourages you to use an instant transfer instead so that "you are fully protected"????

That being said, I have had to do a chargeback/claim on my credit card through paypal before for an item that was never shipped to me. It took a couple weeks to get my money back, but it did work out in the end.

I always use a credit/debit card for Ebay/paypal. If they ever do a "store coupon" for a refund I will be calling my bank or credit card company to get a chargeback... and I will keep the coupon for my inconvienience as well.

This is interesting because normally paypal handles all disputes and refunds, not ebay. If you didn't use payapl (but you did), eBay may only offer a 'credit' as their own type of refund, if you paid with a money order etc. It's better than nothing but weird though.

The one dispute I had a few years ago was paid via paypal. Both myself and the buyer (who broke the item he bought then wanted a refund) both received a refund, from paypal, which I just deposited into my checking account.

Keep in mind one thing. You seem to of have a past of 'issues' with other members. For someone like myself who has only once or twice had to file a complaint in 6 or 7 years, I've always received the refund I was seeking. If you have had multiple (several) disputes, eBay may of put you into a blanketed group of people trying to work the system and/or rip them off, so it's the best your going to get from them.

Just a thought...

God damnit, a guy just accepted my paypal on ebay and then sent me a message saying he sold the item on craigs list. He hasn't paid me back and it's been 3 days. Ebay has me on hold as I write this. It's pretty cut and dry, he even sent the "I sold it on craigs list" with the ebay mail. If I get a coupon I'm going to be pissed.

what do you expect when buying from an auction site?
be happy you got what you got imo.

That is just idiotic. File a dispute through PP and have him pay for ebay fees. He needs a lesson.
