EA sued over Spore DRM (Not A "Bash" Thread)

maybe im missing something, but the first three paragraphs explain a lot. abortion was illegal.
If you are a doctor, and dont want to perform abortions (for whatever reasons) then dont. The law allows the freedom to perform them, when there was no such freedom before.

At the time they were. You are mistaking that for the effect of a challenge to the doctrine that would have the legal effect of overturning that decision.

i do not mind states deciding individually, and i agree with you, most would allow it. However, i think that this choice is already grated to the doctors themselves. A doctor does not have to perform them if he/she does not want to (for any reason). So why grant it twice?

The murder charge is implicit in the law. if a fetus has the same legal rights as you and me which is part of what is proposed, then what would happen if you or me are aborted? Murder in the second degree.

Sorry about the OT bit.

To put myself back on track.

In what states is it legal to drive without insurance?

Point is, when I pay for something... its mine. I don't care what it is, no one is going to tell me I can't use it anymore after I've already paid for it.

agreed with this. This is fundamentally the way things have been done in the US.

.

I wasn't making value judgments about the law, merely explaining procedure. There's a lot of good, non political stuff to read about it. If you're interested, read the caselaw itself, not political rhetoric.

I think I take offense at the whole "installs" another program into your system bit with SecurRom. It's pretty much the same idea as spyware. Installed without consent, and even if you stop playing the game, it's still there running. If you uninstall the game, securrom is still there.

I don't want securrom and I find it a violation of my rights when it monitors what I do when I'm not playing the game. Not to mention it gets kernel rights? I don't get kernel rights, so why the f does a 3rd party program get that deep access into my system. BS

And now Far Cry 2 has the same shit on it. You think these executive business men would have enough common sense to learn from other companies mistakes. Ubisoft was just added to my shitlist and monday I have to go get a friggin refund for my preordered copy at gamestop.

Im praising Bethesda for not implementing this on Fallout 3 (yay). They will have my $50 and I will feel good giving it to thme

Yeah, tell me about it. I'm tempted to buy the game even though I'd probably not play it much because I don't like the genre.

Again, preach it brother! It's hard enough to keep a PC safe without companies with which you have legitimate business attacking it. They offer what they say is a SecuRom removal tool on their site, but considering it's extremely hard to verify that it's gone, how much can you actually believe them? Linux (or a linux live CD) with ntfs writing support is the way I'm going about it when I get the chance to dig.

And for the first time ever, I have found a good use case for Vista. If you don't run with administrative privileges and have the annoying popup set to password only permission, then SecurRom would conceivably not be installed.

Sorry to burst your bubble on this one, but GfW (Games for Winblows) is just a logo. It means that the publisher paid Microshaft to use their GfW label.

And worse yet, that first game that EA was going to release with this crap on it, Bioshock, was a GfW game, the first one if I remember correctly. That time they increased it to ten installs.

A friend of mine bought and said the game was so great that he would prove it to me by letting me borrow his copy. Now that they've dropped the install count to 3, I probably just used his last install.

The worst part is that when you first install, it comes up with this warning that you are about to use one of your installs and that you must successfully uninstall the game in order to recover it. It's a lie. When I uninstalled, there was no recovery utility. It just uninstalled. No "You have regained one install." No "W3 g0t y0u2 m0ni35, b4s73rd!" Just the message: "Bioshock has been successfully uninstalled."

Do not give EA your money. They will take it, disable the product for which you paid them, and laugh all the way to the bank while you try to figure out what's happening. In the real property world, this is called extortion and fraud. In the Imaginary Property (IP) world, this is called business as usual.

Well, there's a bit more too it than that, but you're right: Games for Windows doesn't preclude any kind of DRM. In fact, I'd bet you that Microsoft encourages it.
