EA Shuts Down Visceral Studios

Man this is so disappointing! The dead space series of games was my favorite i owned all 3 at one time, even watched the movies lol

Too bad the last Dead Space game became Lost Planet.

Then you'll be waiting until the internet no longer exists.
Don't tell me you like that you're being sold something for $150 (cosmetic DLCs and other microtransactions included) that used to be free.

I'm not against the idea of multiplayer, I used to have a lot of fun playing multiplayer with my friends. I'm against multiplayer games as stand alone AAA titles. The only context where multiplayer only makes sense to me is F2P.

Its a pity. Not sure did y'all know but after BF Hardline, they kinda disbanded Visceral internally but kept the 'Studio' open
Guess this time its for good

Despite issues, I still like BioWare. However, they've made some bonehead decisions in recent years which will no doubt result in another corpse being left in the mass graves of studios EA's torn apart.

It's only time. Bioware has been going downhill and will be canned by EA soon enough. Just add them to the list of good developers destroyed by EA. (Westwood, Origin, etc)

What? lol so they should let devs go at their own pace? Let me know how Star Citizen is turning out. Always give an artist a deadline.
EA has one objective. To put games on shelves. Screw around and you're out the door. I don't have a problem with that.

PC gamers always shedding tears over the same devs that put consoles first.

Stop fuckin complaining Star Citizen, that game will never be "finished" it's constantly expanding.
You're the fuckers that want rushed half-ass games that come out every year just to milk us for money. Well that's what EA's doing so you're probably happy the EA just buys development companies just to kill them off later.

lol whether it's a half-assed game or a game that will never be finished, you're still fucked.

As underwhelming as DS3 was I always hoped there might be another to redeem it. Oh well. . . rip Isaac and all the rest.

Hold on a second. It's not that we want half-assed, unfinished games to come out every year. It's that Star Citizen is a cluster fuck of a project that probably won't ever come to fruition. Expansion? Hardly. Squadron 42 is more than a year late and should have been the FIRST step towards making Star Citizen a reality. The assets created for it would have been usable in Star Citizen and Squadron 42. After 5 years, that CIG has shown us barely qualifies as alpha content. What we've seen is more like prototyping and game play testing rather than something cohesive designed for a single game. The feature creep that's been allowed into the project and the lack of focused direction should not only be evident to anyone who's looked at the project for five minutes, but should concern anyone with an interest in that finished product.

EA does put out unfinished shit, there is no question of that. However, sticking to Battlefront (2015) and Battlefront II (2017) alone, EA's delivered a more finished and better looking project than Squadron 42 in far less time. It's not a simulator in the same sense, or specifically a mission based space combat game, but as of November we'll have a full game with space combat, ground combat, multiplayer combat, and a single player story. All promises of what StarTanic is supposed to provide and in far less time. StarTanic is supposed to be bigger than that of course, but that's the problem. Chris Robert's made promises on a product he has no fucking clue how to deliver.

There are several games with 100 hours of content that were started after, and finished before StarTanic. I'm sorry, but calling that cluster fuck out on not being finished after five years and over 150 million dollars isn't simply complaining. It's telling it like it is. The excuses are wearing thin. People who call them out on their bullshit simply want to hold them accountable. Effectively, the gaming community has bankrolled a project that's born little fruit. In any corporate or government environment, CIG's lack of progress wouldn't be tolerated. I realize that crowd funding is a different beast, but the concepts are the same.

Personally, I think what we've seen is all that exists of the "game" and CIG and Chris Roberts are doing nothing more than bilking the public out of money in a venture that's turned into little more than a ponzi-scheme. I don't think that Chris Roberts and CIG started out with that intent, but money does strange things to people. I think a product would have been delivered by now if they had any idea of how to do it. Spending some of that money on stuff for the game isn't even proof of progress. Some money was spent on the Phantom Console, and people were hired to work on it. However, very little got done.

As underwhelming as DS3 was I always hoped there might be another to redeem it. Oh well. . . rip Isaac and all the rest.

Agreed. I never finished the third game. For some reason I didn't find it as compelling as the first two. Personally, I think these games have gotten worse with each installment. I'd love to see another one done better, but we might never see that project come to fruition. Then again, EA may sit on some of these IP's for a few years and then start over with new developers.

That's what I feel EA is going to do. Sit on Dead Space for a few years, then make a new one with new devs, after the dust clears from DS3.

Westwood Studio's , never forgive, never forget!

Command and Conquer still holds a big place in my heart. I just tried to install Tiberian Sun again and it wouldn't work :(

Last I heard Isaac was hideously deformed and living in his mom's basement. :D

Nah. I didn't try to put Origin on a VM. I don't have the original CDs anymore

Ah, got it. Was going to say, whipping up a quick Virtual Box setup for this game would be very easy given its system requirements. I wonder if you could copy the installation folder out of Origin (since this is a Win9x/NT4/2000 era game) and run it without DRM issues.

I believe TS did have some type of DRM. I was looking around for a no cd patch when it was still relatively new.

Hopefully that wouldn't be the case with extracting it from an Origin install, but you never know. It's EA. They could have added some kind of online check to it for all we know. :D

Before everyone bashes EA, take some time to consider that it was the average gamer's interest that had a hand in this. The game they were working on was a focused action adventure game, heavily story based. Read what most people on this very forum want:

- As many hours stuffed in as humanly possible, even if only 1/3 of it is worth playing.
- More, bigger, more, more! Quality be damned.
- Open world! I love running around for 5-10 minutes to
- RPG mechanics! Lets collect 10 items to upgrade our weapons by 3.5%, then collect 13 more to 5.7%, so we can meet a level requirement to progress to the main story missions (the only stuff worth playing).

It seems as though after player feedback, EA had a falling out with Visceral. EA wanted to make what the customers wanted, generic, elongated crap. Visceral was trying to deliver a short quality experience, like Mass Effect. The idiot play testers wanted Skyrim. EA Listened to the idiots, and likely shuffled around the employees as a result of the disagreement.

It's still EA's fault for listening to the idiots. Then, I would expect that from a company like them though. EA is and always will be EA. If you don't want an EA game, get it from another company. Preferably an independent, or at least from a publisher that allows a bit more freedom for the actual talent that develops their games.

People should be buying more id and Arkane games for example. Bethesda (say what you like about Bethsoft) seems to allow their studios to do what they want.

Not just GOGOGOGOGOGOGOGO DO THE SAME THING OVER AND OVER AND OVER AND OVER AND OVER..ok bored, next shallow game please?
That's it, you hit the preverbal nail on the head ... that's what was wrong with Mass Effect Andromeda. It wasn't really the animations that killed it ...

Counting the days, until the multiplayer bubble explodes.
Fuck multiplayer, fuck microtransactions, fuck anthem, fuck ea, fuck the idea that mp only games are worth more than jack shit.

Mp used to be a tacked on bonus for a fully featured game with a fully featured story and campaign. Q3A, UT you started this garbage, and I hate your guts for it.

Oh the irony. Don't project your own insecurity onto me. It is not about winning or loosing, and had you read my second post it would've been obvious to you.

Plenty of MP only games are well wroth their price. And certainly do take up AAA game budgets. I like and play both types for different experiences. What I don't like is tying SP to a crappy MP component, or these new "Hybrid" SP/MP/co-op games, like Wildlands, The Division and what it sounds like the game in the OP will become.

So whose decision was it to force the shitty Creation Club in FO4 on people?

I didn't say Bethesda was perfect. Nor did I say they didn't nickel and dime anyone on their own product. I said that they seem to allow their other studios the freedom to make the games they want to make (like id / Arkane). As soon as they shut down id for having different artistic vision for a game, then we'll talk and compare them to EA. Really there's going to be BS from any large publisher, that was just an example of a bigger one that seems to be at least a bit better than EA.

Ideally studios would be independent, but with the budgets necessary for big games these days, that's really not an easy thing to do.

I'm yet to see one. And Wildlands is one of the if not the best game released in a long time.

Though I agree with you on this, this is what will ultimately kill multiplayer gaming....just found this article....its disturbing and infuriating at the same time.

Mincrotransactions.....with built in algorithm to entice people to buy because of the match making.....literally making it one sided......
