Greetings

I recently placed an order for an EVGA 460. In my haste when I ordered it I forgot to check the PSU requirements. Now that I have looked at it I noticed it is recommended to have at least a 450W PSU with +12V current rating of 24A. Well my PSU obviously can meet the wattage requirement but unless I am interpreting the PSU's information incorrectly it seems to be a little lacking in the amps department with the +12v1@22A +12v2@22A and +12v3@25A. Am I SOL here? Should I look into upgrading my PSU? I am not as knowledgeable with these sort of issues as I wish I was so I definitely appreciate any advice you all can offer me. Especially while I still have a small chance of cancelling my video card order.

Thanks so much!

No, you're misinterpreting the information:

That 24A rating is for the total +12V capability of the PSU, not just one rail. In addition, that 24A rating is for the Nvidia's entire test system + the GTX 460. So the real requirement is much much lower than stated. In addition, your PSU has 45A total on the 12V rail as the PSU label states that 540W is reserved/available for all three of the +12V rail.

So in other words, no worries, your GPU will be fine with that PSU.

However though, unless you got that GTX 460 for around $150 shipped BEFORE rebates, that GTX 460 isn't a good buy at all considering that the similar performing HD 6850 can be found for as low as $150. In that $178 price range, the faster HD 6870 is also available. Even if you wanted just a Nvidia card, the even faster GTX 560 costs only $12 more. So all in all, at its current $178 shipped price, that GTX 460 is a poor buy and I recommend canceling the order and grabbing any of the three cards I just mentioned.

And yes your current PSU will be fine with any of the video cards I mentioned.

Wow, thanks Danny, I can't believe I overlooked that deal on the 560. For only $12 more I would be insane to pass that up. I do have a bit of a bad taste in my mouth from AMD/ATI cards/drivers and am wanting to go with Nvidia this time. Thanks alot for pointing that out!! Also thanks for answering the PSU question, much appreciated.
