E8400

I'm running mine on a Gigabyte P35-DS3R (rev 2.1). Runs like a dream, and I'm currently in the process of testing my OC on it. I haven't had any troubles, booted up out of the box, and ran fine from day one.

Does that mobo have an IDE? Right now I'm just going to move over my WD 100GB IDE 8MB cache drive until I move to SATA.

The P35-DS3R does, I think the P35-DS3L does as well (at least a quick google search makes it appear that way)

I haven't' come across a board that doesn't have at least 1 IDE port for 2 channels. Controlled by a 3rd party controller though (Jmicron usually).

I recommend the GA-EP35-DS3R, supports the E8400 without a bios update, it's $133.

I agree 100%. I built an E8400 system with 4G of RAM and the GA-EP35-DS3R several months ago and it has been running completely stable at 4 GHz. I've had it up to 4.3 GHz but it runs too hot for my taste on air cooling.

Been playing with Server 2008 as a replacement for Vista and Server 2008, IMHO, is much better. Noticeably faster, completely stable and it looks just like Vista, even including the Aero interface, flip 3D, sidebar, etc.

I just did a similar build with the same mobo and CPU. Any chance you can share your OC settings? I've been playing around with mine and have yet to come up with anything stable that doesn't actually DROP my benchmark scores, even if it registers as a faster speed. But I'm still an OC'ing novice, so any I'm not terribly surprised at that.

Sure, here are my current settings:

Robust Graphics Booster: Auto
CPU Clock Ratio: 9x
CPU Host Clock Control: Enabled
CPU Host Clock Frequency: 440 MHz
PCI Express Frequency: Auto
C.I.A.2: Disabled
Enhance System Performance: Turbo
System Memory Multiplier: 2.00
DRAM Timing Selectable: SPD
System Voltage Control: Manual
DDR2 Overvoltage Control: +0.2V
PCI-E Overvoltage Control: +0.1V
FSB Overvoltage Control: +0.1V
(G)MCH Overvoltage Control: +0.1V
CPU Voltage Control: 1.3250V

Of course, every CPU and MB are different so your setup may require slightly higher or lower voltages.

Good luck.

if your going with intel chipset, go the gigabyte P35 chipset on newegg. the one that cost $80 or so with the "all solid copasator" in the title

Thanks freaksaviour I'll definitely keep that in mind for shopping around. The reason why I initially asked is because I just purchased a graphics card to be used with a PCI Express 2.0 slot. None of the suggestions prior to my post listed that in the specifications.
