e6750 overclock

My memory configuration is 2x2GB. The specs on the RAM simply say 1.8-1.9, so even at 2.0, im above their limit. and its timing states 5-5-5-15. I'm currently running a Blend Test in Prime95 at 2.0GHz(6x333) with a 2.4 RAM multiplier to get to 800MHz at 4-4-4-12 at 2.0V. On another forum someone suggested i do this to rule out RAM instability since they said from their experience unstable RAM will cause the small FFt test to fail. So far its 9+ hours without error. I'll let it run for 24 hours though. once this test finishes i'll give what you suggested a try. just a completely stock setup running memtest and then a second time at my highest stable clock at 3.0GHz. I'll let you know what i find out!!

well, i finished doing the Blend test, it had no issues. So now i'm not sure what else to test. Am i finally out of luck on this one?

I tried those setting, and it failed miserably. At 1.45 it didn't even boot, and at 1.475 it got to the windows XP loading GUI, then crashed. I even had a +0.1 on my FSB, MCH, and DDR2...

i ran a memtest 10+ hours last night, no errors in those results either.
I'm thinking more and more that maybe there's an issue in my BIOS settings i'm missing or don't know what it does. The only things i've done was disable C1E and EIST function. and in the M.I.T. page changed the Performance Enhance to Standard, PCI-E frequency to 100.

Should i Disable C.I.A.2? how about Thermal Monitor 2 (TM2)?

I'm seeing ~39C (idle), ~55C (load) at stock speeds using a AC Freezer 7 Pro. I see a lot of others posting much lower idle/load temps (even with overclocks) with the same cooler. I've got a fairly small case (Antec Super Lanboy), but it's got adequate airflow. I've also got a 8800GT with a Accelero S1 and a big-ole' 120mm fan blowing up towards the top of the case, so I'm guessing that's not helping.

Anyway.. I'm a little concerned about the temps at stock speeds, as I would like to get it OC'ed some (I've had it perfectly stable up to 3.2GHz before). Should I look for a better cooler, or a better (more airflow) case?

I've actually got it running OCCT right now with the side of the case off, and I'm still seeing temps upwards of 54C.

Thoughts?
 
Yes. I received a new RMA motherboard, and just yesterday applied a new fresh layer of AS5. I understand that AS5 may need some "settling" time, but these temps still look a little too high.

I've got it OC'ed to 3Ghz now (8x375) and I'm seeing idle temps at ~41C, and load at near 60.

Run cpu-z and also check your bios to see how much volts your mobo is giving your cpu. It could be giving too much juice. you only need 1.31 max. That's my volts on load @ 400x8.
 
Hmm.. it's showing 1.416 V in CPU-Z. It's just using "Auto" settings in the BIOS, so I guess I'll ratchet it down to 1.31V and see how stability looks.

Edit: So yeah, good call. I'm down to 37C idle, and 54 load (@3.0Ghz | 8x375) which I suppose isn't terrible with the semi-cramped case environment.

What is strange is that I set CPU voltage to 1.306 in the BIOS to test with but cpu-z is saying I'm at 1.28V. :confused: Vdroop maybe?

Either way, it's nice and stable at this voltage, so I might lower it a bit more. Thanks for the advice.
