E6700 worth getting an upgrade?

Hi guys I built my computer a little over a year now and i currently have the Intel E6700 CPU and as I see the prices come down as new CPU's come out etc I am wondering if it is worth upgrading to a faster one and if i will notice a big enough difference to justify it?
I mainly game with my computer and I have read a few times that quad core is not as good for overall speed just more multitasking etc which is not as good for games etc. I was wondering should i upgrade to a E8400 or E8500 or even go to the quads or would i not notice much difference from what i have now with load speeds etc?

what's your budget?

if I had an E6700, i wouldn't go for anything but a quad core..

since you game, the difference between e6700 and e8400 is not huge enough to make that upgrade..i'd say an extra 5 fps?

on the other hand, you're still good to go..i'd spend on more ram, a new videocard and just oc that e6700 to it's maximum, your cpu is still really good.
 
I have one of those.
It ll do fine on any gmes you throw at it at this time.
But i do warn you the E6700 isn't the best OCer.
Like the above said Its perfectly sufficient and only quad cores are a good upgrade if you do.
 
i dont have a E6700, but ive got a E6400 running at 3.0, just OC it.

What GPU do you have? Sometimes (most times) the video card is more important than the CPU.
I forget where i read that a C2D over 3.0 should be enough CPU power if you've got a good video card.
 
If you want faster load speeds etc, I would suggest getting new harddisks, preferably in a raid0 setup.
Perhaps some more memory aswell (4+ GB).
And ofcourse a sueprfast videocard if you want maximum gaming performance.
I think pretty much everything BUT the CPU will make a difference in games.
 
Keep the CPU. Overclock it a bit if you need performance from it, but the other things noted in the thread, video card, memory and HD will do better for you in most games.
 
My e6750 is running at 3.05 ghz.. I have never noticed slow down with it, so I don't know what upgrading it would be worth. Guess it depends if you game or if you do high intensity CPU applications...
 
Thanks for the replies guys, right now i am running an 8800gtx video card and 2 gigs of ram so I think i will try the overclocking thing like many of you say and it sounds more fun also :)
