E6600 vs. E6700 is it worth the extra $$

I'll second the notion. No way i'd spend that much for the minimal performance increase.

why not tell him to get the 6800 so more everything else for us?

No way at all is it worth it. The E6600 can pretty much max out anyway, and already has the 4MB cache :).

Not at all. The E6600 can be overclocked to the same speed as the E6700 easily.

Your trying to justify your build. A E6700 can easily be overclocked also.

See my post above ;). By "max out", I mean the ability of the core used in both chips ;).

I am just wandering its worth the extra cash to buy a E6700 over the E6600?

You could try giving us an idea of your budget constraints and what you want out of your system.

They are essentially the same chip (same transistor count, cache), except with a different multiplier (6600 = 9x, 6700 = 10x). The performance jump between the two is negligible in gaming.

Unfortuantely you don't know what your talking about and are completely wrong. The E6600 and the E6700 are the same chip but the 6700 just has the multiplier higher for a slightly higher clock. They both max and the same amount therefore overclocking the exact same. So, think before you post there next time.

Aside from the clock speed, they are both identical. Sure, the E6700 is faster but if you look at how much money you have to spend to get that speed bump, it will not reflect the performance you may expect. Unless you REALLY want the 10X multiplier then, well, yes the E6700 is for you. Otherwise, not worth the cash in my book, since they overclock pretty well.

Its not really an issue of money, its an issue of wasting money if there is no real benefit to getting the 6700. I have never OC'd prolly not going to start now. I mainly will use the machine for BF:2, WoW, CS:S, and planetside as well as some web design / photo editing

Thanks for all the replies
