As the famous core 2 duo processors have been on the market for a while now, which one is worth the better buy?
E6400 = 2Mb of L2 cache but 100 dollars cheaper
E6600 = 4MB of L2 Cache but 100 dollars more

Out of those two which would you say is worth the better buy and better for gaming?

Depends. E6600 will give you better performance out of the box. If you plan on overclocking get a E6300 as that will most likely easily surpass E6600 speeds. But if you dont plan on overclocking E6600 for sure.

6400 cheap and overclocks well b/c of the 8x multiplier
the 6300 is too hard to overclock b/c of the 7x multiplier, you need 428FSB just to reach 3Ghz, and 500FSB to reach 3.5Ghz (quite hard to reach). And when many chips are hitting 3.2-3.6Ghz on air. Why leave any of the chips potential unused b/c the motherboard wasn't up to par.

With a 6400, you can hit 3.2Ghz with a 400FSB @ 8x. And 3.4 @ 425FSB, etc.

6600 isn't really worth the improvement in my opinion

What will rock in coming weeks will be the 6420. Same price and features (8x) of the 6400, but will also have the 4Mb cache!

Oh.....WOW, OMG..lol a E6240 with 4mb L2 cache, i think ive found the deal of the year, you know when its coming out?

yep..same thing here...but it seems soooo far away...lol, can prob get mobo and psu rite now though, to be prepared ;)

My overclocking options were limited so I just bought the cheapest model that still had 4 meg L2 cache. The fact it has a x9 multiplier too was a nice bonus. Not sure if the E6600 will still be available alongside the E6420... but if it is then I imagine the price is going to drop a fair bit from what it is now.

E6400 is a much better buy. Put that extra 100 bucks into a better video card.

E6400 is real easy to overclock.
