E6600 Temperature

I have an Asus P5N32-E SLI mobo and I just updated the bios to the latest, finally decided to install that Asus probe program, My computer is currently running at 57C according to Asus probe, so I would think that this is a little on the hot side, Is this something to worry about? My two things that came to mind is possibly replace the Thermal compound or get a better cooling method than the stock fan. But I don't think it should be that hot for being run as a stock E6600 with no O/C. What do you guys think? In the Asus probe it's telling me the case temp is 43c. I am thinking maybe when the processor was installed some of the compound might have not spread the right way since Core2Duo fans are a pain in the rear to get them to go in the right way. I actually went to a friends house hes a pc tech, but he lives 40miles away from me. What do you guys think. Reason I even looked at this is because I been playing LOTRO and lately the game has crashed, get the blue screen of death and the whole thing resets. I am trying to narrow down the problem.

57C is very warm for idle. You should be getting around that temp for load. Since your crashing I doubt a temp sensor is off. I would start by re-applying paste and if that doesnt work, make sure your IHS isnt concave.

What is ideal temp for idle? I have also heard some things of using Artic as a thermal paste, what do you think?

I decided to use sandra to see some specs, and I notice it gives me different readings on temp. It's telling me processor is at 44C and Board temp 58C, I am thinking maybe the Asus one might be off, or it's taking in consideration both temps, What would be the best software to get accurate temp reading? I wanna make sure before I pop the thermal compound off, the fan is a pita to get in.

Ideal temperature is as low as possible.

It all depends on your cooling and ambient temperatures ( temps in your room ).

..and yeah I'd take a look at the installation, that seems much too high unless your room is massively warm ( like 40°C warm ). The stock things do take forever to get it right, took me three tries to get mine on the first time. I always get all three on and then one doesn't want to go, I move it around and then get it in and ANOTHER one is stuck. -_-

Asus Probe is rubbish and infamous for false readings. It used to tell me my cpu was 240 degrees. Take it off the machine and use something else.

CoreTemp or SpeedFan tend to be reliable, determining temps.

Try reflashing your BIOS, maybe? I have no idea -- it the chip is actually idling that hot you have a serious problem on your hands.

I played around with a few flash versions. Even a beta one, not too much difference.

like silent-circuit said, install coretemp or speedfan to monitor your temp, and try to add some fans (intake & exhaust) its better if you can put 120's fan. you can also buy AS5 n local radioshack stores.

OK guys, gonna order artic cool 5 and the thermal paster removal. This is not fun. time to play with the pin pushing action.
