e6600 temp questions

I recently built a core2duo system and noticed that one core always has a lower temp than the other. At first I thought it may be the stock cooler but today i installed a Thermalright SI-128 and the 2 cores are still reporting that one is hotter than the other. With the stock cooler I was running around 40-47C at idle with the second core being the hottest. Now it's running at 36-40C at idle with the second core being the highest. I have my 2 front fans pulling in air, the 2 side fans pulling in and the 1 top and 2 rear as exhaust.

Could be anything, 4C is more than mine (one core is 1 to 2 C hotter), heatsink mounting, thermal grease application, unflat heat spreader, unflat HS mounting plate, or just the cores themselves as one is slightly better than the other.

I wouldnt get all that concerned about it as it looks like mounting that heatsink is a real pain in the butt.

Lapp everything if you havent already if it really bothers you and see what happens.

I would just leave it alone. I am having a hard time getting a mental picture of the airflow in your case.

I think you have way to many fans all pulling and pushing air around the case in different directions. I am wondering which way the hot air from your CPU takes to exit the case with all those fans spinning the air around.

quick question boognish....doesn't the thermalrite as all HSF pull the air across the HS rather than push it and if it does..don't you have a side fan directly in front of the cpu/hsf blowing against your HSF hence your side fan and HSF are fighting each other...that can be bad....I bet you would get 3-5 degrees cooler if you adjusted the side fan to pull air out of the case rather than push it against the HSF...my 2 cents

On the Thermalright website it says the fan used should always be blowing down for all Thermalright heat sinks. So I figured that having the side fans blowing air into that fan would be the best option.

Does that sound right?
