e6400 temps too high?

Ran a prime95 max temperature test to see if the cooling is working as it should.
Ended up that after an hour or so it was hovering around 67C (63-64 for the other core), so checked the temp in bios (I guess these are the only pure idle temps that can be seen) which was about 37C.
Case cooling should be adequate with 3 fans blowing in and 1 out.
But I'm thinking that there might be a problem with the heatsink not having proper contact with the cores.
Using a scythe infinity and as5. I had to rebuild a couple of days ago so maybe the as5 haven't set yet but still have a nagging feeling something might be wrong.

So anyone have a idea? Should I wait and see if the as5 sets and reduces the temp or should I reset the heatsink with all the hassle that is.
 
Your E6400 is at stock speeds right?

If it is, then those temps are pretty bad considering my cheap AC7 Pro keeps my E6400 OC'd 3.2Ghz at 58C load, 45C idle. Ambient is 22C I think.

- How much AS5 did you use?
- What app are you using to monitor temps from within Windows? Use CoreTemp and Speedfan if you haven't already.

Followed the instructions from the as homepage...
Guess I have to reset the heatsink then and see what happens.
 
Revisiting this...

Came around to resetting it today (lack of time earlier)
Ran prime95 for 37 min and ended up with 55C on one and 53C on the other core. So quite a difference. Temps for the higher one didn't change for 10min when I closed it.
Seems still high compared to what I've seen some people report (low 40s etc) but at least a significant improvement.
Sadly seems to be something wrong with either the heatsink or mb holes, one of the pins was damn hard to get in, oh well at least it is in and hopefully the as5 setting period will lower temps a bit more over time.
