E6300 owns you

Donnie,
Thanks :)

AlphexHunter,
That might be pushing it. On good water, i'd have to guess around 4.2-4.3ghz would be max. For anymore i'd need phase (which my Mach1 is gettting fixed ATM).

This is good enough for me, give me a decent cooler and 4ghz shouldn't be a problem.. oh this is a e6600.

I doubt you will get 4ghz out of a e6600, on air or water. Not yet any way. Once they have improved the cores a little (maybe in a year or so you might be able to clock it that high).

Hell, people who have the production x6800 cpus cant even break the 4ghz barrier, for a stable 24/7 clock.

Show me a e6300 that can do this.

Might wanna check out xtremesystems, a few e6300's gotten close to that already. Might pick me up a e6600 in a month or 2.

Yeah, with superclocking DS3 motherboards (which have lower clock-for-clock performance anyway) that hit 500FSB, a rarity ;). E6300 definitely isn't the way to go, get at least the E6400 if you want/need to save money :).

where is the source for your DS3 performance remark?

I think GoldenTiger is referring to some benches done at XS. Technically the comparison was between 6300 w/ DS3 vs. 660 w/ P5W-DH. The 6300 combo was clocked to the same clockspeeds, but obviously had higher FSB. In general the performance was a little lower.

Not sure why this is; whether it's cache, the DS3, or perhaps even the 965 chipset. Rumor has it that 965 is on a C1 stepping, and Intel will release a new C2 stepping later in the year.

Yep, the ones by PcCriminal are the ones I am referring to... the results, if you look at them, can easily be interpretted as the 965P being slower clock-for-clock on the DS3 vs. the P5W-DH's 975X chipset.

This is not a retail chip, this is an ES chip. I know it will do 4ghz. This cooler just can't handle the heat.

mystupidmouth,
XS is my home forum, i know whats going on over there. There are a *few* e6300's coming close. This chip has alot left in it.

I'll stick with my P5W no issues with it and it clocks fine. 975x is a better chipset IMHO anyway.
