Would i notice a real-world difference between the two in games such as Crysis?

I think in crysis your vga is your key factor. Both processor in the same speed will have similar performance.
If you have to choose of course go for e6300, a lot of people overclock the proc and achieve >3,2ghz easily
 
if you plan to over clock i would say the e6300. I personaly havent seen that many e4500 overclocks to say its better. like the above post you can get 3.2Ghz easy with an e6300.
 
I think the bottom line is that clock for clock you won't see any significant difference, like 1-3% maybe, if that. The 4xxx chips seem to run hot though, so might be worth springing for the 6300.
 
the E6300 has a max cpu multi of 7x requiring a very high fsb to reach decent overclocks. This requires a high FSB board and stresses it significantly as well as high speed memory. see my sig.

E4500 has max cpu multi of 10x making it easy FSB wise to reach decent overclocks. This requires any decent board and should not stress it at all. PC6400 (800MHz) memory can handle any conveivable OC you could acheive.

The E4500 has smaller cache but the above far outweigh the minor performance penality. Recently built a E4500 and DS3L took about 10 minutes to have it running at 3.2 GHz and memory slightly overclocked with a 2.5 memory mulitplier. Artic freezer pro heatsink.

E4500 has a 11x multi, not 10 (11x200=2200). With a lower FSB and a much higher multiplier it would be a better oc chip. The stepping for the E4500 series is newer than the earlier 43/4400's and might actually get past 3.2-3.4 with little effort and some luck.
 
I have my E4500 running at 3.2 ghz (11x291) completely idle for a few hours it goes down to 28 C under full load i've seen 58 C as the highest temp with my Artic Freezer Pro 7 cooler and arctic silver paste.

After running some benchmarks in Crysis, on medium with my slightly OC'd 3850 i average 36 FPS.

i think it'll be a lot easier to oc with E4500 considering its 11 multiplier, just put 300 for 3.3ghz and most boards will take a piece of cake of it, 11x ftw.

If 3.2ghz is the speed that'll make you happy, E4500 to go.
i know that because i've been stressful to reach past 3.2, but that's only because my chip being not a good overclocker.
 
I was having problems with getting my VERY early e6300 that I had over 2.4 stable (fried my GB 965-DS3, possibly from trying to do so), so I bought a GB P35-DS3L and e4500 and quickly stepped up to 2.93 GHZ with my RAM at a comfy 800 MHz. I am in the third day of stability testing, but I have been slow to increase voltage too fast. Try a 0.100 vcore increase and you will step up quickly. I was stock at 1.325 and am feeding it 1.475 right now with no qualms and max load temps of 50 C.

I benched both procs in stock form after I upgraded the mobo and vid card. The e6300 and 8800Gt got 8400 in 3DMark06, but the stock e4500 (slower FSB and all) floored me with a 9500 score!!!! :eek: As soon as I could get it stable, it popped a 12,227 score! :cool: Not a world record, but for a $125 chip on the egg right now, it is a great buy! Your mobo choice may play a large part in this, but I would say the e4500 would be my choice. I am even beating my friend's q6600 at 3.0GHz and his 8800GTS (G90) with 640 MB of RAM! To say I am happy with this performance from a system that would save me $300 or more vs. his system would be a gross understatement!

OK that's useless information since your procs are running at different speeds....

You're not beating anything against your friend with a quad core vs dual core with 1/4 the cache of a quad. It's all video card and yours is faster.

the cache of the e6300 and e4500 are the same.... we're talking e6300 here not e6320....

OP, just grab the E4500, it's noob friendly overclock and should be easy to get 3.2... but don't set your expectation too high.
