Hi, I'm putting together a C2D system based on the E4300 and I plan on overclocking it up to 3.0-3.4ghz.
If I use it's stock multi, I'll have something around 350-360fsb, and since I'm planning to use some nice ddr800 that can reach 1000mhz that's way below 500mhz.

Will it be harder to increase the fsb if I lower the multi to 7x or 8x than if I leave it at default (9x)?

Either the motherboard will do it, or it wont, and without knowing which motherboard you intend to use, cant say.

If you buy a performance MB you should not have any trouble as any decent one should go to 400 FSB.

i had the same thought as the OP

i have a Biostar 965PT and i tried lowering the multiplier to get higher FSB (heard 965pt has bad strap problem, so i wanted to get above 401FSB) but it didnt really work on this board

does this mean this MB doesnt support lowering mult, or i am doing something wrong?

a lot of people are hitting alleged "fsb walls" with various e4300s at this point
