E4300 vs E6300

So besides the FSB being like 266mhz less on the E4300 than tha E6300 whats the difference do they still OC well and does that FSB really matter?

Tough question. Which is the exact reason why I have not even decided on a CPU yet. There are many things to consider, which is why it is so difficult to decide.

The E4xxx series are good and cheap. They have a high multiplier, which is a big plus when ocing and relieves a little stress on the mobo and memory. However, they do run slightly slower than E6xxx, they tend to need more volts to oc higher. They also tend to not overclock as easily. But, they are the cheapest...

The E6xxx are a little more expensive but are conroe's. The good ones OC like crazy. The newish E6420 and E6320 seem to be ocing champs. The downside to E6300/E6320 is the very low multiplier of 7x, which is definitely something to consider. Trying to run 3.6ghz+ on a E6300 with a 7x multiplier is gonna put alot more stress/heat onto the memory and mobo. On top of that, you run a 7x multiplier cpu, you definitely need good overclocking memory, where as a higher multiplier you wouldnt necessarily.

If I had to say what the best deal was, id say the E4300 or E6420. I wouldnt look any further than one of those two. E4300 is pretty dirt cheap now at $117. The E6420 is only $20 more expensive than the E6320, and has an 8x multiplier instead of a 7x. The $20 is definitely worth the higher multiplier if you plan to overclock very high.

The difference between a 9x multi and 10x isn't going to make much difference. With the E4300 and E4400 you're going to hit the top of the CPU's abilities before you'll max out the FSB. If going for the max overclocking value, stick with the 4300.
 
I was thinking of running at about 2.2-2.4GHZ on stock cooling and i want bang for the buck w/o heat issues.

Exactly. 9x and 10x is a moot point. 9x is high enough that you dont need higher to oc. Stick with the cheaper one that is $117... E4400 is a waste imo.

2.4ghz on stock bud is like......not even overclocking. :) All c2d's will do that with ease on stock cooling so...youre pretty set. Pick up a E4300 then. You really should be able to do like 2.8ghz even on stock cooling without worry about temps.
 
an e4300 at around 3.0ghz is no slouch and would be a solid processor to have for a while. definitely no point in going with the e4400 over the e4300 either.
 
Ok then ill see what happens when all the new procs come out tomorrow then ill make a final decision and order all of this stuff now that i have the dough. Ill be sure to post pictures ;)
 
E4300 can do 3Ghz on stock vcore and that should run nice on the stock heatsink/paste even. Only need to get DDR2 667 ram too!
 
according to the reviews from buyers on your link it works fine with 680i and 650i boards. there should be no reason why it wont work with yours, even tho it is an msi product.

and I can also agree that you do need some huge quality ram to overclock past 3.2GHz on anything with a mulitiplier of 7. My OC: 503MHz FSB (SDR), 252MHZ MEM (SDR). 503 X 7 is 3.521Ghz, which is imho a pretty decent overclock, but as you can see I had to mutilate my ram. I thought that 680i's memory controller was better then it was --dont get me wrong, If i change it to 3:2 or some obscure ratio I can manage 3.4GHz. Because I went with a cheap proc and a cheap memory I didnt get the OC i really wanted, thankfully the Nvidia Engineers were there to bail me out (at the price of $320 cad :S). Point is if you go with the E6300, or E6320, you might look at some of that new OCZ reaper or some Corsair dominator, or anything thats really rated above 1Ghz DDR. If I had done that I'm betting Id be well into 3.6 knockin on 3.7.
 
Im not planning on OCing past 2.6Ghz on my proc so i dont think thatll fry my G.Skill also the dominator ram aswell with alot of other ram is out of stock on newegg. And i heard that the MSI SLI-FI board was just as good as the ASUS whats the difference?

you can actually run the e4300 at 7 with a 266fsb and its the same as the 6300 !

e4300 can hit 3,3ghz or 3.4 very easily and only using about 1.40volts
which is nothing get a after market cooler and your temps will be like stock
these chips don;t get that hot wit i run my e4300 at 3.3ghz on a DFI 965p-s
and its very fast you can hit this speed with cheap 667 ram for christ sakes

there hasn't been much said about the e4320. more cache is always good, but the price and how it compares to the current e4xxx processors will determine if its worth it.

Hey dudes how about that A-DATA DDR2 800 RAM is that good stuff for an SLI-FI and for my OC to like 2.4-2.6Ghz?????

kingston value ram is good ocing ram

anything ocz is ok it has a great warranty

I just bought this yesterday:

e4300
Gigabyte 965P-DS3
Crucial Rendition 2x1gb PC5300 DDR2-667 (the cheap stuff! only cost me $46CAD each)

and I am at 2.4Ghz (266Mhz x 9) no problem no sweat

only thing, I had to increase ram voltage to 2.0v, and use slots 2 & 4 (even tho cpu-z identifies it as SLOT #1 & SLOT #2)

The latest 6300 are NOT Conroes, they have been shipping as Allendales.
