Ok, here's the issue. When I first got my E4300, I OC'ed it to 2.88 GHz and I noticed that it was getting 80 C on load using Orthos with a Scythe Ninja heatsink. This seemed unusually high so I did some forum browsing and found lots of conflicting information. The E4300 has a Tjunction of 100 C compared to the E6000 series chips which is 85 C. Some people also believe that certain temp monitoring programs, such as Core Temp, are reporting the Tjunction temp wrong. I recently switched over to water cooling and the load temp went down to 70 C. This lead me to conclude the following:
I noticed that many people are reporting their E6600's running at 50 C. This is 35 degrees below the Tjunction. Likewise, 70 C is 30 degrees below Tjunction for the E4300. This would mean that nothing is wrong with the chip, it just runs hotter by design. There seems to be a misconception that ALL C2D chips should not exceed 85 degrees and should operate at most 60 C on load.
I wanted to ask what you guys thought of this. Is 70-80 C on load for the E4300 too hot, or well within specifications? Either way I've had no trouble with the chip, it was stable on 2.88 GHz at 80 C when I ran Prime95 overnight and it's also stable on water cooling on 3.2 GHz at 70 C.
