The official price is 163USD, so I wouldn't hold your breath, only once in a blue moon does the price fall below Intel MSRP, unless there is a rebate program going on.

After the retail mark up $179 is about where I expected to see the price, it's a good price and it's definitely better then the $193/199 that they where going for originally. It'll probably stay there for a bit until the second quarter when the prices are suppose to drop to around $113.

Yeah, true. Should fall a bit more once more stock comes in though, 170 is what I'm realistically wanting. I'd rather pay ~170 and have it drop later than the current 180, but I can't wait to long.
 
I just picked up a E4300 from Fry's for $170, not to shabby for a local buy.
 
I bought a retail E6300 at Fry's for $183 not that long ago. If the E4300 is only $13 less, it doesn't seem like a good buy.

Yeah, it's the inquirer...but I saw it elsewhere first, just don't have time to dig up more! This is a cryin shame for us e6300/e6400 owners, but great for everybody else! Maybe waiting till after Q2 '07 would have been the right choice....
 
isn't a price drop comming along with the extra 2m cache? I swear I saw a roadmap that had e6420 at 180 and e6320 at like 150.

well, if it were priced like that, they would effectively be eliminating the 4xxx series, as for 20 bux you could get a heck of a better chip.
 
There is a 6350 and 6450 coming out that unlocks the other 2mb of cache for the same price. You are probably going to see the E4300 in alot of Dell, HP, Gateway, etc PC's. Also when the price drop comes out for the E4300 you will probably see more people buying it.
 
People won't want the E4300/E4400 for the cache or stock speed, they want it for the high multiplier.

Yeah the E6320 will be $20-30 bucks more than the E4400, but the E4400 has a 10x multiplier compared to the 7x of the E63xx.
 
I thought I read somewhere that clock for clock the 6xxx series performed better.

It took somewhere around 3.3-3.4Ghz just to have to performance "close" but still not equal to 2.93Ghz on the x6800 chip.

So to have it cost more then the e6300 :confused:
 
The X6800 has twice the cache, which makes a difference in some applications.
