E3110 initial OC results

All this goes to show that some people have large problems with things they don't understand.

What in God's name happened here? lol

Reason for trading my poor overclocking quad for a dual

1. I wanted to.
:D

l

no need to cop a plea. your thread stood on its own merits. i would bet 9 out of 10 of us would do exactly the same if we could afford it.i did exactly the same. and pretty sure i immediately posted a thread with my results.

and re my e8400 getting better performance than my q6600 "is in my head". well, i had a q6600 for at least 6 months, and now i have had an e8400 for 2 or 3 months. i know how each performed. now am i imagining this, or are you, who did not do these things, imagining it?

I think you've rather much shown how stupid you are by linking that and not even realizing its a photorealistic render. Look down the page champ. You aren't going to "straighten" anything out. You're a pompous what, 18 year old "consultant". Meaning you what, build computers for people in your spare time? Come now.

what makes this guy think I didn't know it was a render?

edit:
I'm a RN kid, what have you got, an A+ ? :p

BAhahah, I just looked this up:

Google "define:RN":
"A nurse who has graduated from a formal program of nursing education (diploma school, associate degree or baccalaureate program) and is licensed by the appropriate state authority."

congrats dude, whatever floats your boat.

The thing is...

it cost me nothing to make the switch...lol

Which is why I'm confused it caused such a fuss. If I had traded the quad + $100 for the Xeon, then sure...call me a dumbass left and right.

Nice clocks.

I'm getting a quad soon and I'll see what I can do with it.. if it doesn't perform as I think it should I'll probably trade back for a dual.

Did you notice any improvement in games or general use? I'm trying to decide if overclocking my E3110 would be worthwhile right now because it seems very fast already. I guess if I can achieve an overclock with only a small temp increase then there would be no reason not to overclock.

How do you guys feel about SpeedStep? Good for the life of a CPU or just a useless feature? I have it disabled right now, but feel it might be useful.

If anyone cares...I'm trying to prime @ 4.2, and having a rough go at it.

Seems to want me to POUR on the volts now for any kind of stability over 4ghz.

I tried to prime @ 1.326, but the temps made me nervous. (77-78C, with Coretemp offset -10 degrees to correct TJMax.). Once I replace this shoddy ninja with a Xigamtek 1283, I may be able to prime there with stability, and see where else I can get to.

Most do, I've had like 4 of these now, getting 4.2 Ghz prime stable has taken alot more volts that 4.1 in every case.

My old E3110 went up to 4GHz rather easily, anything higher, even 4.1G took LOADS of volts to get there.

Whole article - http://www.legionhardware.com/document.php?id=737

Quad is better for gaming, need 4.2Ghz dual to match it at lower clocks. :p The whole review shows more of the same. I went back to my Q6600.

Crysis_1680.png

very nice read. i didnt know that. But is that was dual card only? wish he did other cards also.

Aren't all of those games quad supported/optimized?
Seems like a selective list.

If someone were deciding between a quad or a dual for general gaming, I definitely would not use that link to prove a point, since that would be biased.

was tweaking a bit tonight, and am looking prime stable at the following

42ghz.jpg

Memory is 1:1, 5-5-5-15-54

Unfortunately, my board's NB HS height will not allow me to orient the HSF (xigmatek HDT-1283) so that air is exhausted out of the back of the case.

I'll be replacing that NB HS with this...

http://www.xoxide.com/noctua-nc-u6-chipset-cooler.html?productid=noctua-nc-u6-chipset-cooler

Then turning the cooler to blow out the back of the case instead of @ the powersupply. Should net at least a few degrees C cooler @ these settings.

Case I have is this...

so the old e3110 will do 4.2 huh? nice. :) i have the q6600 at 3.42, still hopin for 3.6 if i can get pwm and nb temps down.

Indeed! I've been quite pleased with the results on this thing. :)

I think once I make the changes to my setup, listed above, it may have some more in it.

3.42 @ 1.396v eh? What's the droop like on that board? Aren't you using the stock cooler still as well? I think if you toss a Xigmatek 1283/OCZ Vendetta 2 @ it, that should open things up a bit. If you orient it, so it blows up (assuming you have a top exhaust), that should have a nice effect on both PWM and NB temps.

Oh, and Daven Holly is out for the year it's looking like. We're dangerously thin @ corner now. :(

i'm actually using a xigmatek 1283 now. exhaust is in the back though, so it is aligned appropriately. vdroop on this board sucks, around .06. yeah Holly hurts. i wish we would at least win a couple games before our guys go down. :)

Is that 1.396 before droop? If so, 1.33 isn't bad for getting it up to 3.42. Better than I did with it anyway.

Braylon has a hip pointer now also.
McDonald better step up and be a starter immediately! Or I think we're screwed in the seconday.

I think what may happen, is they move Baxter to FS (if he comes back), and Pool moves into the rotation @ corner. Remember he played there a bit 2 years ago, and did pretty decently.

yeah, 1.33 after vdroop.

with the schedule we have this year, our corner problems are huge. pool to cb i think is a must, not an option at this point. interesting to swee what happens. just hope the new big guys up front have the qb down before he can throw deep. :)
