DX 10 Cards Release?

nst6563 said:
sooo....basically what this thread is saying is that it's kinda dumb to buy a new card now if you can live with the one you have b/c the dx10 stuff will be coming out early '06?

I ponder this...b/c I was planning on getting either an x1800xl/xt or 7800gt/gtx...

Who said early 06? The G80 and R600 (first DX10 cards) are planned to be released around Q3-Q4 2006.

expect the r580 and G75(?) to fill in the gap between the current and DX10 cards

Radeon X1000 is compatible with up to DX12! I work for a printing company who printed up internal spec sheets for ATi and it said this and i have one it says DX compatible for up to DX12.. i can't scan it though, the ink in the paper is designed to degrade when exposed to certain frequencies of light, a scanner would effectively make it unreadable.

uhhh...hehe...dunno...for some reason early '06 was stuck in my head. :p
my bad ;)

DirectX 10 was built with the future in mind. Microsoft cut backward compatiblility with all DirectX 9 and earlier software. They will still be able to run on the system, but require some sort of emulation. This means they will be able to run, but they will run slower. DX10 is the way things are going, but that doesn't mean that Microsoft is just going to cold turkey DX9. It might take DX10 a little while to get settled in to its place in the market. This is just like buying an AGP card right before PCI-e was going to come out. You either take note on where the market is going and hold off or go ahead and drop $XXX on a new video card and maybe have to replace it in 2years.

DX10 isn't going anywhere until Intel develops a DX10 compliant IGP. They will of course, but it is probably a ways away and will happen much closer to the Vista launch.

I think one main reason they have made DX10 so isolated is to encourage market appeal straight-away, however they're not dumb and added 9.0L as a fall back :p

than you shouldn't post if you have no ilinks/proof to back it up dude
some folks will never learn, but i have a feeling you speak the truth

not so sure about htat. Intel just put a radeon xpress 200 chipset on one of their motherboards

No, they won't. No GPU on the market right now will be able to run the DX10 API (disclaimer: that's not to say that a game that uses the DX10 API won't work. A seperate DX9 rendering pipeline should still be able to be built), and you've already asserted that by saying "they won't support its features". Part of the DX10 API is a full feature set, i.e. in DX9 a dev has to check for certain compatibilities in the card being used, but not only will that not be necessary in DX10, such a system won't even exist.

why did you bother posting that when the original post already was clear?

unless you know that the new DX10 games won't have any dx9 render paths

Does it instantly degrade?

which doesn't really tell us anything about when they will have a dx10 igp chipset

I think most people expect it to be after Vista's launch. At first you wrote that you thought they wouldn't make one.

Because of this, devs will likely be supporting DX9 for 3-4+ years (the 3 year mark will be for the, with respect to min specs, really ballsy devs, e.g. how Battlefield 2 requires PS2.0 cards)

battlefield 2 requires PS 2.0 cards?

that doesn't sound right

I apologise for my contardictory like statements but it is merely me struggling to formulate my views properly ;)

I’m guessing the sound card will have to be DX 10 compatible too, but will my Z-5500 work or would I need another set?

No, you have to have DX10 compatible speakers and moniter too. If you want to play any CDs, they also have to be DX10 compatible.

i could see a sound card upgrade to take full advantage... but speakers??? if there optical out, it should be compatable... what about the community that microsoft built around xp mce ... all these people that run optical or componet out to there home theator systems will have to upgrade there recivers???? (or was this sarcasm?)

i sence a massive shift to linux....

thore

And monitor with HDCP.

And just like that, you have yourself a whole new system.
Don't for get the case too, I think I might half to get rid of my full tower ATX.. <--And yes that was sarcasim.

-Proxy

BTX 2.0 should be out by then...b/c so far, BTX sucks...at least Dell's rendition of it anyway...

and you'll need an updated driver set for the case anyway...so maybe someone will make a hack

Someone call up Omega and have him make some high performance yet visually stunning case drivers. :p

How the hell can the case be DX 10 compatible? The case will have its own chip or something? WTF?

its a spoof of the recent "SLI Certified" Corsair RAM

So you wouldn't be able to play any DX10 games with a DX9 card? Even without all the pretties? Why can older cards play DX9 then? (not argueing with anyone, just don't quite understand how this will be any different than the older upgrades)

if you're 1337, you'll know that your upgrades are futile with the new ikea DX10 desk/chair combo. Now they can tell everything about you by your ass sweat and pulse. heh

i think we can, if they make a dx9 render path...just like how CoD 2 have DX7 render paths...

But something tells me this will be more like between dx7-dx8 rather than dx8-dx9. Differece is that dx7-dx8 lots of today game are not able to run on dx7 due to the lack hardware programmable shaders. But a dx9 game, u can almost be certain that it'll still run on a dx8 card, provided it still have the enough horsepower, like GF4 Ti.

So, by WGF2.0 it would have new hardware requirement that the developer might need to have a different render path specifically for dx9 cards....just like the dx7 path in CoD 2

Anyway i guess at least for the next couple of years games will still run on dx9 cards.

fuck im going to need a dx10 compatible desk and desk lamp and printer and keyboard and mousepad and

FUCK

Darn, George Bush isn't DX10 compatible so all americans are SOL until we get a new pres....so who is rooting for Tecumseh's curse now? ;)

I'm seriously laughing at these people who read the sarcastic "case/monitor/speakers must be DX10 compatible" and take it seriously and spend two whole sentences rebutting.

Limited similes and internet forum, makes it a bit challenging to be sarcastic. :p
